MWC: Tecno Camon 30 PREMIERed as the Brand’s Latest Camera Powerhouse!

With a design probably inspired from OnePlus, minus the Hasselblad marking (so the Ace series then?)

Too many things happened at MWC, a three day event held in Barcelona from February 26 to 29. There are some brands that did not show up, such as Huawei due to sanctions but there were also newcomers like Transsion and their Powerpuff Girls: Itel, Tecno, and Infinix.

In Tecno’s hub, you will find an assortment of new technology, new for the brand that is, as well as some innovations for their smartphones. The Tecno Camon 30 Premier was one of the devices present at the event. It presented a huge step forward as the company’s flagship handset.

It’s quite a powerhouse actually. First is the 6.7″ LTPO OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, something that’s not really Tecno’s familiar territory. Alongside this is the MediaTek Dimensity 8200, a slightly powered down Dimensity 9200 with the same architecture, nanometer process (4nm), and features. It comes with 70W fast charging and 12/512 configuration. There is technically up to 24GB RAM here if you’re willing to spend 12GB of internal storage temporarily anyway.

The design is also flagship-like. It heavily reminds us of the OnePlus 11 and the OnePlus Ace 2 with its cornered large circular camera hump and similar black and silver hues. It lacks the Hasselblad branding because Oppo, and in conjunction, OnePlus, has an exclusive contract to them. Still, these cameras are highly comparable. There is a 50MP Sony IMX890 as the main shooter, a 50MP ultrawide, and another 50MP for the 3x telephoto. There is yet another 50MP at the front too. This is the first phone from Tecno that consists of all 50MP cameras at every single type of camera and the first Tecno phone to feature a selfie camera with more than 32MP resolution as well.

For the first time, Tecno introduced the IR Blaster to control your appliances. It’s really nice to see IR Blasters make a comeback after their endangerment pre-COVID-19 days.

Now, if Tecno is to partner up with a camera and lens company like Hasselblad, Zeiss, or Leica, which company would they partner with? Canon is looking for smartphone partners and Tecno can grab that chance to make their next CAMON phone to be an even more powerful camera house, and bringing Transsion as a whole to a larger spotlight!

The device will launch whenever it is ready. Tecno isn’t saying anything really, aside from “soon”.
