Tough does not mean unbreakable. Because Glass is Glass and glass breaks. It’s just more durable than your typical tempered glass.
Previously, Honor released the Honor X9b (called Magic6 Lite in Europe) in global markets. Today, our colleagues from Honor Philippines has excitedly told us about its release in the Philippines this January 12. Mostly boasting its tough glass.
They are proud of this “all angle ultra tough” so much that they even asked fellow creators to torture the device. Some smashed it against various hard fruits and vegetables and some dropped it. Some even went more extreme by using the phone as a hammer to pound nails and dropping the phone on a ceramic staircase. Honor’s publicity video even showed its staff throwing it in mid-air, then stepping on it, and finally pouring water all over it, all without destroying the phone at all!
This tradition continued since the toughness publicity of the Honor X9a, its predecessor. Also, like the X9a, it features a similar design with some notable changes. First, the camera hump at the back now greatly resembles more of the Huawei Mate 50 and even features a similar orange colour scheme.
Second, the chipset has been upgraded from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 which is manufactured on a 4nm process. It has 12GB RAM + 256GB ROM.
Third, the main camera has also been upgraded from a 64MP unit to a newer 108MP snapper but the other two cameras, the 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro, are unchanged. It also features the same 16MP selfie camera. EIS is present on the main cam.
The Magic6 Lite also comes with a very large 5800mAh battery but also slightly slower 35W fast charging (the X9a had 40W fast charging). It charges via a USB-C port.
Finally, the display, its most defining feature. We mentioned that it is tough, but not how it is tough. Honor claims the glass used on this, though not explicitly Corning’s or Asahi’s, went through rigorous testing and even added layers cushioning so that it is protected against drops and shock. This display also has a higher resolution of 1.5K. The backlight is sourced from OLED and also features 120Hz refresh rate.
There is no pricing yet but judging from the X9a, we’re guessing it has a price between PHP 15,990 to PHP 17,990, the latter being the more plausible price. Stay tuned on the 12th so that we can see if it can indeed survive a 100ft drop.
