Imagine a Curved AMOLED Screen but at a Sub-12K Price Point… That’s the Itel S23 Plus for Ya!

We’re not kidding! It’s a breakthrough for budget phones.

We are actually pretty excited for this one! The moment we heard that the Itel S23 Plus has a curved AMOLED screen and it’s a BUDGET phone, we couldn’t believe it. How can something this affordable have a display that’s premium? Not to mention, it’s priced at PHP 10,990 and Itel even has the courtesy to bring down its debut price somewhere close to PHP 5K. The nerve on this company!

Surely there must be some caveats, right? A curved OLED is pretty expensive to manufacture and you still need to put a decent camera array, including the front, a good battery, and a powerful chipset. So, let’s dive down to the specs sheet. (We’re also greatly hoping for a review).

As the poster implies, the Itel S23 Plus features a 6.78″ curved AMOLED display with a dot notch. A significant upgrade and feels truly like a “Plus” from the base S23. The “S”, like the Galaxy S series, stands for “super” for Itel’s series. As you can see, there is no high refresh rate but that’s asking for way too much.

There is a 50MP Primary Camera at the back and a very low resolution 0.08MP depth camera. A very unique one for its kind. Thankfully, Itel did not cheap out on the front camera, opting to use a 32MP selfie. Remember, this is a sub-12K phone we’re looking.

Although, in terms of performance, that’s where Itel lowered it down the most. Its promotional posters and ads barely even mention the chipset. It’s a UNISOC Tiger T616 4G chip paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM (plus another 8GB virtual RAM). This particular chip is manufactured based on a 12nm TSMC process and features a 2×6 architecture consisting of an ARM Cortex-A75 main CPU core (2GHz) and ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores (1.8GHz). As for graphics, it uses a Mali-G57 MP1 graphics processor.

Also, it doesn’t utilize a fast charging speed as its complementaries and competitors. The Tecno POVA 5 for example, while uses a flat AMOLED screen, has 45W fast charging. The Itel S23 Plus, on the other hand, uses 18W. At least you still have the option to charge it rapidly. It uses the cliche 5000mAh capacity.

It runs ItelOS 13 with GPT features, including its built-in AI assistant. The phone also features an in-display fingerprint scanner which can help you fool your unwitting friends to think you paid for at least twice the price for the handset. It comes in Elemental Blue and Lake Cyan. It also has been spotted in Shopee. Initially priced at PHP 10,990 but on October 5th, during its debut, it’s nearly 50% off, with the listing mentioning a “PHP 5xxx” price tag!

And this is why local manufacturers are dying, but it lets other companies strive and make those aforementioned local manufacturers inspire to be better.
