The Samsung Galaxy A34 and A54 with Super AMOLED screens now available in the Philippines

Why fix something that isn’t broken?

Samsung Galaxy A34 design

The fourth generation of Galaxy A series is here. The first ones are the A34 and A54. With rumors saying that the A7x series would be discontinued, the A54 may be the highest end of the bunch. Their designs remain almost unchanged since the Galaxy A32 and A52, and Samsung probably thought this is the perfect design for their smartphones coming forward.

Samsung Galaxy A54

The Samsung Galaxy A54, surprisingly, is the smaller phone. It uses a 6.4″ FullHD+ SAMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and the so-called “Vision Booster” support. The phone uses an Exynos chipset (uh huh, kinda questionable), particularly, the 5nm Exynos 1380 chipset.

This chipset uses an octa-core CPU comprising of four Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores clocked at 2GHz paired with a Mali-G68 MP5 GPU. Also, this chipset has 5G functionality which makes the A54s and A54 5G unnecessary to exist. It could support up to 200MP cameras and up to 144Hz displays. In this case, the phone only has 120Hz refresh rate so it still counts.

There are three cameras at the back with a clean design. These cameras are Samsung’s favourite options. These include a 50MP Primary (no OIS mentioned this time around), 12MP Ultrawide, and a 5MP Macro. The depth camera is absent. The front features 32MP dot notch selfie camera.

By the way, both the A54 and A34 have an IP67 rating, the first time for the A3x series and it’s still pretty rare to find in a midrange phone. This seems like a staple for Samsung as the IR Blaster is to Xiaomi. This rating makes the two phones survive when you accidentally drop it in a pool while partying way too hard.

In terms of battery life, the A54 uses a 5000mAh battery and 25W fast charging. After the Galaxy Note 7 trauma, Samsung is playing it a little safe by limiting their charging speeds to 25W. Seems like it’s going to be like this until the end of time. It features an in-display fingerprint sensor and Always-On Display with notifications.

The A54 is available now in the Philippines with a price tag of Php 24,990 for the 8/128 option and Php 26,990 for the 8/256 option. Pricey isn’t it? That’s Samsung for you. Their phones are more of an investment than it is an asset unlike many other of its counterparts.

For those who will pre-order (lasts until March 30th), the Galaxy A54 will enjoy a FREE 25W travel charger alongside a FREE storage upgrade. This means you could potentially get the 8/256 option for the price of the base 8/128 one.

Samsung also has a trade-in program which is normally reserved for flagship handsets for other manufacturers. Users will enjoy up to Php 10,150 in savings and also get a 50% discount on the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro and 30% off for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5.

You could pre-order it through Lazada, Shopee, Abenson, Samsung’s concept stores, and MemoXpress Online as well as other authorized retailers.

While expensive, the Galaxy phones are pretty easy to maintain and service because Samsung has numerous service centers around the country.

SAMSUNG GALAXY A34

The two phones are a lot more similar than you think. While the Galaxy A34 sports a dewdrop notch, everything apart from the cameras, display, and chipset, are the same.

First off, the A34 is actually slightly bigger. It sports a 6.6″ FullHD+ (2400x1080px) SAMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate. Also it uses a far more reliable MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset. This is paired with 8GB RAM and a choice between 128 or 256GB storage.

The cameras are slightly downgraded so it doesn’t overlap with the A54 and keep prices slightly lower. Here, the phone uses a 48MP Camera with an 8MP ultrawide and 5MP macro as its complementaries. The selfie camera is now down to just 13MP.

It still uses the same 5000mAh battery with 25W fast charging. It also has an in-display fingerprint scanner, 5G services, IP67 rating, and NFC.

Unlike the A54, the A34 misses out on the Lime colour, so you only get the Awesome Black and Violet ones. Like the A54, the A34 is polished in a matte-like finish so it isn’t too glaring. Price starts at Php 19,990.

For those who will pre-order (lasts until March 30th), the Galaxy A34 will enjoy a FREE 25W travel charger alongside a FREE storage upgrade. This means you could potentially get the 8/256 option for the price of the base 8/128 one.
