The X7a too underwhelming and the X9a too expensive? Let’s see how the middleman turns out!
Honor Philippines teased the middleman of the Xa series, the X8a. The main feature of this is the new 100MP camera made by Samsung. Also, like the X9a, this has a dot notch instead of a waterdrop. Neat and modern.
The phone is to be launched tomorrow, March 14th. Content creators have a lot of good things to say about it (although frankly, we would like to get a hold of one ourselves). It features a camera bump that looks very much Huawei in design. The front is a 6.7″ LTPS LCD with 90Hz refresh rate. It is “edgeless” according to the company and has a 93.6% screen-to-body ratio.
The cameras here, aside from the given 100MP are nothing special. They are your 5MP Ultrawide and 2MP Macro cameras. The front camera has 16MP resolution.
It launches with the MediaTek Helio G88, a chipset that’s a few months old. Although we suspect manufacturers only used this particular chipset now so that it will be optimized on phones. This is paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. You also have a choice of 6/128 if the former is a little too expensive for you.
It is powered by a 4500mAh Li-Po battery charged via a 22.5W USB-C port. This seems to be the typical value for almost all of Honor’s budget phones. It also has a USB-C port, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a MicroSD slot, and the gimmicky and frankly placebo-like Virtual RAM.
As a phone with a Helio G88 chipset, it can only attract 4G LTE connectivity (not 5G). It also has Wi-Fi 6/6e, Bluetooth 5.1, and a Dual Nano-SIM slot. Some models also support NFC.
Colours include Cyan Lake, Titanium Silver, and Midnight Black. The phone is made of a plastic casing. Price in the Philippines is to be revealed tomorrow, so stay tuned!
