Realme’s totally-not-dynamic-island phone is coming tomorrow!

It’s quite obvious that this pill-like notification bubble is experimental but Realme also wanted it to be seen by many.

You know what they say, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”. We accurately guessed that, right after the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max was announced, Android manufacturers would follow suit in creating their own “Dynamic Island”. Probably not directly ripping off the design, but through other means. Realme took this route and announced the budget Realme C55 with a new feature: Mini Capsule!

Taking a gander at the design, the C55 takes cues from the Realme 10 sporting a similar camera array layout. This is more obvious when looking at the Sunshower Gold colourway. At the front is the 8MP selfie camera situated in the middle. This time, its positioning actually has a purpose: to serve the mini capsule.

The MINI CAPSULE!

So what is the mini capsule anyway? As you can tell, it’s a ripoff inspired by Apple’s Dynamic Island. Like it, it can display alerts, battery notification (including charging), incoming calls, data usage, step count, and walking distance of the day. Take note that this feature would not be available right away but later through an OTA update.

As for everything else, it’s your usual budget phone. It features a 6.72″ FullHD+ (2400x1080px) IPS LCD screen with 90Hz refresh rate. It sports the MediaTek Helio G88, a refreshed version of the G85. It is paired with 6 or 8GB RAM and either 128 or 256GB internal storage with virtual RAM and MicroSD Card expansion respectively.

There are “two” cameras at the back. The primary camera is the 64MP sensor. The other is the 2MP depth sensor. As mentioned earlier, it has an 8MP front camera.

It comes with a 5000mAh battery and 33W fast charging. The first for the C-series and may become the standard as Realme announced no phone would have charging rates slower than 33W this year. The phone has 4G LTE services available alongside a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, 3.5mm jack, NFC, and Dirac Audio enhancement.

The phone has been revealed in Indonesia complete with specs but no price yet. Better wait until tomorrow for the reveal. With that said, there’s no announcement yet for its arrival in the Philippines. The Mini Capsule feature may stop being unique to the C55 in the future and may become available in subsequent versions of RealmeUI.
