Huawei MateBook D16 and 16s are now official in offline stores in the Philippines!

New MateBooks, larger notchless MateBooks.

In an event set up by Huawei Philippines in SM Megamall, the company officially revealed two large notebooks, conveniently called the MateBook D16 and 16s. They used to be available for pre-orders online only.

Their processors are not much different but what set the two apart are their screen resolutions, build, and battery. Notably, the MateBook D16s gets a 2.5K screen, a metallic build all over, and a large 84Whr battery. Both of these laptops feature a nearly bezel-less notch-less display (MacBooks beg to differ)

MateBook D16

The more mainstream version, the D16, offers a 16in. Full HD (1920x1200px) 16:10 IPS LCD screen, a choice between a 12th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors (H variants too), an integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics processing unit, 16GB DDR4 RAM + 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD, and a 60Whr battery with 65W fast charging. The laptop’s frame is aluminum and feels premium. It is a productivity laptop and allows you to seamlessly connect your phone to the laptop without the unnecessarily hard casting measure.

The laptop is comfortable and spacious enough to include a large keyboard AND a number pad at the same time. That way, you can press special characters with the alt key more easily.

The laptop has a variety of ports too, including two USB-C ports (one for fast charging and the other for transferring files), one USB-A 2.0 port, one USB-A 3.2 port that transfers files faster, a single HDMI 2.0 port, and a 3.5mm audio port. It does not seem to have any SD card slot of some sort, but we’re sure it has a Kensington Lock.

There is a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button, a backlit keyboard, and a large touchpad. It also has a stereo speaker system and a quad mic. It has Huawei’s very own Share Tag and the so-called “sharkfin fan”. It comes in Mystic Silver and Space Grey colour options.

Huawei MateBook 16S

The more premium laptop of the two. As we mentioned earlier the main differences between this and the D16 include its more premium chassis, display, larger battery, and an apparent lack of a number pad. It makes the laptop more spacious but also now you have to press the function key so that you can work with special characters.

The laptop’s display is a 16in. 3:2 2.5K (2520x1680px) IPS LCD screen that is also a touch screen! Rare for a laptop nowadays unless it is detachable. Inside is your only choice of processor, the Intel Core i7-12700H. On the bright side, at least it uses a performance variant and not the power-efficient one, meaning the laptop can handle heavier duty tasks than “U” variants, although laptops with this type are usually more expensive. It uses Intel’s Iris Xe integrated graphics. It comes with 16GB RAM and 1TB NVMe SSD storage. By the way, that’s just the bare minimum if you want something that can handle both heavy gaming and top-notch productivity tools such as AutoCAD, Adobe Premiere, or Sony Vegas.

Like the D16s, this laptop offers seamless transfers from your phone to the computer. The laptop’s built-in program “Super Device” allows the user to seamlessly connect their phone to the PC that’s just a drag away.

The ports available here are the same as on the D16. Namely, the USB-C port, USB-A 3.2, HDMI, and headphone jack. It lacks the slower USB-A 2.0 port. Instead, two USB-A 3.2 ports stand in its place.

There is also a single webcam with face unlock. Don’t like that option? There’s always an alternative, such as using the fingerprint reader located firmly inside the power button. This laptop, like the D16 also comes with a backlit keyboard and its touchpad comes with Huawei Share built in. It has dual speakers and dual microphones.

As mentioned, the laptop comes with a large 84Whr battery with 90W fast charging charged through the laptop’s Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port. The 90W power adapter comes with every purchase of this notebook. It boots with Windows 11 Home

The laptop weighs 1.99kg, shy of 2kg. Meanwhile, the D16 weighs approximately 1.7kg. The MateBook 16 comes in one colour, Space Grey.
