The TCL 20 R 5G is a basic 5G phone that’s now available in the Philippines!

TCL downgrades their phone for every succeeding phone, only to release a higher-specced version of it.

The TCL 10 5G is a phone that was released almost a year ago but felt like it was only yesterday. TCL’s US website has actually delisted it in replacement of the slightly improved TCL 10 5G UW. The company has released two successors for it already, the TCL 20 and 30 series. For this article, we’re going to discuss the 20R 5G, which is already available here.

TCL’s main featurette for their phones is its display enhancements and so, the NXTVision feature is here to stay. Its display is a 6.52in. HD+ (1600x720px) IPS LCD with a waterdrop notch. It is a basic 5G phone akin to the Poco M3 Pro 5G and Redmi 10 5G. The display has a fast 90Hz refresh rate.

It uses the Mediatek Dimensity 700 processor. Oddly enough, aside from some select Nokia and Motorola phones, we don’t see Chinese manufacturers use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G. The TCL 20R’s processor is paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage which is just enough for today’s Android standards.

The camera is also screaming “budget”. It has a 13mp main camera so no pixel binning here. It is paired with the useless 2mp auxiliaries. You know ’em, you love ’em, the macro and depth cameras. The front camera is 8mp sitting on a waterdrop notch.

It has a standard 4500mAh battery with no fast charging. It boots with TCL UI on top, which I actually had a decent experience so far. It has a rear fingerprint scanner and face unlock for biometrics. It is charged via USB-C.

The phone is available for Php11,990 and comes in Lazurite Blue or Granite Grey colour schemes.
