Mediatek Kompanio 1380 is coming to premium Chromebooks!

It will be available first on the Acer Chromebook Spin 513.

Today, Mediatek has announced the Kompanio 1380 intended to power premium Chromebooks, such as the Acer Chromebook Spin 513. This processor is manufactured based on a 6nm process and is designed to have the best power efficiency possible on a Chromebook chipset.

The chipset offers an octa-core CPU consisting of four high-performance Cortex A-78 cores with speeds up to 3GHz and four unannounced power-efficiency cores. For graphics, it uses the Mali-G57 GPU and the entire system is complemented with a four-channel 2133MHz LPDDR4X RAM. There’s also a multi-core APU for camera and voice applications as well as for helping in battery optimization.

The chip can also decode 4K movies and TV shows while still maintaining their quality, in addition to decoding high-quality sound and maintaining high battery life.

For activating digital assistants such as Google Assistant, the processor has a dedicated digital signal processor (DSP) that requires very little power on voice on wake-up (VoW) capabilities. The chipset also is Wi-Fi 6/6E enabled and can also transfer via Bluetooth 5.0

It will be available on Chromebooks soon with no announced release date.
