Realme 8i appears in renders. It may sport the new Mediatek Helio G96 SoC

Other things in the rumour mill: 120Hz display, 5000mAh battery and 50mp camera

Two new processors from Mediatek have been released: The Helio G88 and G96. The Helio G88 first debuted on the Xiaomi Redmi 10, so it’s about time for the G96 to shine the light, and Realme may be the first manufacturer to reveal the SoC.

In case you weren’t aware, the G96 is essentially the Helio G95 with a slightly faster clock speed, at 2.05GHz. The chipset also improves upon AI performance including videos and photos.

The render above was created by OnLeaks in partnership with Digit.in. The Realme 8i is rumoured to sport a 5000mAh battery, 6.5in. 120Hz FHD+ IPS LCD screen and the Helio G96 processor. It may also come with a 50mp sensor complemented by two useless 2mp depth and macro cameras. The usual 16mp front camera is also expected.

The phone will come with 128GB UFS 2.2 storage and 4GB LPDDR4x RAM. The phone is part of Realme’s tradition to create a toned-down variant of their main series (e.g. Realme 7i, Realme 6i). So this phone is a watered-down Realme 8. Although that phone uses the Mediatek Helio G95 as its SoC, the performance should remain similar in theory. One noticeable downgrade from the Realme 8 is the use of an IPS LCD panel instead of AMOLED along with the absence of an ultrawide camera. The power button on the side is also available and that also functions as a fingerprint scanner.

We’re just waiting for Realme’s word on the phone. We reckon it will release alongside the Realme Pad.
