Be guarded, fake DITO Prepaid Wi-Fi modems and Pocket Wi-Fis have appeared online

Fake DITO modems disguised from legitimate Globe at Home modems have appeared online. DITO has responded to the growing fake modems, saying that they have not yet released prepaid or postpaid Wi-Fi plans into the country. This new modus was created from illegitimate unlocking of Globe at Home modems and then placing DITO SIM Cards inside them. Even if a DITO SIM was inserted inside of it, there’s no guarantee they will work or be reliable.

“It has come to our attention that certain individuals and retail establishments are illegally reselling and passing off as DITO Telecommunity modems, several of our Globe At Home WiFi Modems. The modus is done through the unauthorized unlocking of the Globe device, substituting the Globe SIM with a DITO Telecommunity SIM and concealing the Globe At Home trademark with a sticker of DITO. All Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi kits have pre-inserted SIMs in the modems ready for activation via the Globe At Home app or FB messenger upon purchase.” a representative from DITO said,
“We are prepared to take the necessary legal action against these unscrupulous individuals and establishments carrying out these deceptive business practices, through the assistance of law enforcement authorities. If anyone has bought, experienced, or has been made aware of this illegal activity, please report the matter to the Department of Trade and Industry–Consumer Protection Group via their email address at consumercare@dti.gov.ph or text 09178343330. They may also report via Globe At Home’s official FB messenger.”

In addition to these responses, Chief of Administrative Officer of DITO Adel Tamano has said that to only buy DITO SIM Cards to official resellers, offline and online partner stores as well as their official outlets, such as DITO’s Shopee and Lazada. DITO has not released any form of home broadband modems, nor pocket Wi-Fi at the moment since they just started.
