It does not cost PHP 10. We aren’t that lucky.
It’s been a while since we heard anything from TCL’s phone division. They are a brand that is just quiet in the smartphone industry. While they aren’t exactly a flop, they aren’t huge successes either. Most of TCL’s lineup originated from their experience of handling Blackberry.
They once had a presence in the Philippines but that did not last long. Currently, their main markets are the United States, Canada, and of course, China. Just like the newly released P10, which is currently exclusive to Chinese users.
TCL’s biggest success comes from their display technology. They are much more known for manufacturing monitors and TVs than phones. They also supply display technology to other brands. For the P10, its main boasting feature is the paper-like display called NXTPAPER.
This kind of display is designed for prolonged use and has a smooth paper-like feel hence the name. It is like an amalgamation of e-ink displays and an IPS LCD. While it isn’t strictly stated, the phone is able to use 5G connectivity. Typically, TCL would label phones that has 5G access, such as the TCL 10 5G which we reviewed a few years ago.
The phone is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 chipset with 12GB RAM and either 256 or 512GB ROM. It’s a basic 5G phone but it checks out. The said NXTPAPER display has 120Hz refresh rate and measures 6.7 inches. It’s already off to a good start.
TCL’s UI is known for its simplicity, and reminds us of old OxygenOS before it became a clone of ColorOS. The phone has a special NXTPAPER button to access super reading mode. The P10 is practically an e-book reader, like the Amazon Fire tablets or the Kindle.
The back somewhat reminds us of the Vivo V30e, especially with how the cameras are arranged. The phone has a nifty 5010mAh battery charged via a USB-C port. Though, its charging rate is not explicitly stated. There are only two functional cameras at the back, plus a 2MP depth sensor. The two cameras in question are the 108MP primary and the 8MP ultrawide. As for those who love selfies, you would have to settle with an 8MP selfie camera. It runs TCLUI based on Android 14 fresh out of the box.
It is listed on JD.com with a “CNY 1???8” price tag, so that means its official price is not revealed yet. Also, as mentioned, the phone is obtainable only in China as of this writing. Black, Glacier White, and Gold are its main colour options.
