New Redmi Note 14 Phones Released in China!

It just keeps getting more ridiculous

It’s not everyday you see both the Chinese and global branches launch new products together and at the same time. It happened with Xiaomi. The global branch announced the new Xiaomi 14T series while the Chinese headquarters launched the new Redmi Note 14 Pro and Pro Plus. Yes, only the highest-end two are launched at the moment (well, there’s also the Redmi Note 14 5G) but after a few months, we will see the regular Redmi Note 14 phones and it will be, as always, a mind shocker.

Redmi Note 14 Pro:

It seems like every brand likes the squircle or round-shaped camera island in the middle, and the Redmi Note 14 is no different. This isn’t technically new as the brand did this type of design back with the Redmi Note 9. Although this one has a larger and more intruding camera hump and two-tone colored back it seems.

Getting to the basics, the Redmi Note 14 Pro carries over from its predecessor by using a 1.5K (2712x1200px) AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and 1920Hz PWM dimming. It supports 12-bit colour, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ image qualities for that maximum movie night enjoyment. Neat, no?

The phone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Ultra, where the “Ultra” is just a name intended for marketing purposes and the chip appears to be more powerful than it actually is. Can’t make it go as powerful as the Dimensity 9300, that would be overpowered. The phone has up to 12GB RAM and 512GB ROM. It utilizes LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage technology. The phone also features a large vapour chamber so that you can’t use it to cook your meals.

The phone comes with a cliche 50MP + 8MP + 2MP setup, with the main sensor being a Sony LYT-600 with OIS. The phone competes directly with the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite and the Oppo Reno 12. Can’t wait for the POCO version soon. As for the front camera? It’s a 20MP Omnivision OV20B.

Phone batteries are getting larger while phones themselves are getting thinner. How companies achieve that is impressive since you still need room for other compartments. In the case of the Redmi Note 14 Pro, it’s a 5500mAh battery with 45W fast charging. The phone also supports PD 2.0 and PD 3.0.

Finally, there are your connectivity options. These include Bluetooth 5.4, dual-band Wi-Fi, 5G services, and NFC. The phone has an in-display fingerprint scanner and an IR Blaster, a Xiaomi signature feature for almost all of its Redmi Notes.

The Redmi Note 14 Pro is priced initially at CNY 1,499 (~PHP 12K) in an era when 8/128 should be kept at a lower price range. It’s still a lot more reasonable than the Galaxy S24 FE, though.

The phone is IP68-rated, making that initial price tag a lot more attractive, in combination with its specs. Not only that, Xiaomi is not pushing the phone as if durability is its main feature and only significant feature. The phone comes in four colours: Black, Green, White, and Lavender. These are not the official names. We’ll have to wait and see until this is sold globally.

Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus:

This here is the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus. It features a design that almost looks like a flagship. The design is most likely inspired from the company’s flagship 14 series albeit much much more watered down, and no Leica branding.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus is what we call an “all-rounder” phone. It can produce great images while also being good at some heavy-duty games all the while not having a price tag that kills your wallet. Just like the Pro, the phone is IP68-rated, so in some conditions, it can survive large jets of water and is almost completely immune to dust thanks to tight compartments.

It’s got a display identical to the Redmi Note 14 Pro, mainly a 1.5K AMOLED with 120Hz refresh rate. It uses a slightly more powerful chip, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. The phone comes with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB ROM. Depending on what you’re choosing, you’ll get either UFS 2.2 or UFS 3.1 storage, and either LPDDR4X or LPDDR5X RAM.

The phone has three functional cameras, unlike the 2MP depth sensor that the Pro has. The main camera is the so-called “LightFusion 800”. It’s basically the Omnivision OV50B with OIS. The other 50MP camera is a 60mm telephoto sensor with 2.5x optical zoom. And of course, the 8MP sensor used here is the ultrawide camera with 120 degrees FOV.

If you think the Redmi Note 14 Pro’s battery is large, the 14 Pro Plus is larger and has faster charging speeds too. It seems like we’re jumping to the 6000 range now and would be the trend starting next year. For the Pro Plus, the battery capacity is 6200mAh while the charging rate is 90W. It still lacks wireless charging, though.

The phone comes in three colours. We don’t speak Chinese, but we’ll try to interpret the colors based on what our browser’s translator has to say, and using common smartphone colors we’ve passed through since. The three colors are Midnight Black, Porcelain Silver, and Starlight Green.

The phone is sold starting at CNY 1,999 (~PHP 16.1K). We’ll wait for the global and Philippine release for the official price and color names.
