More Foldables Coming Your Way. AI is the name of the game.
A few days ago, Samsung unveiled several new devices. The most obvious ones include the new foldables, the Z Fold6 and Z Flip6. These two phones are designed to integrate with Samsung’s new wearable devices, particularly, the Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch 3 and Watch Ultra. These accessories, especially the Ring which has been teased since last year, will be noted in another article.
The main upgrade of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from its predecessor mainly comes to durability. The design of the foldable practically remained unchanged. The Fold6 now comes with an IP48 rating, as opposed to its predecessor, which is only confirmed to withstand water damage (but not dust).
Cameras remained the same. It uses four cameras. These include a 50MP Primary, a 10MP telephoto, a 4MP inner selfie camera, and a 10MP outer selfie camera. It uses a customized Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset as per Samsung and Qualcomm’s partnership. This is done to optimize the chipset into Samsung’s UI and ecosystem.
Speaking of ecosystem, the main reason you would buy this instead of last year’s Z Fold is its ecosystem integration. The newly announced Watch 3, Watch Ultra, and Galaxy Ring are already designed to work with the Z Fold6. Older devices would have to wait for a while. The Z Fold6 is lighter as well, in spite of its suggestive design. The Z Fold5 weighed about 250g while the Z Fold6 weighed for 239g.
The display type remains the same. It’s a 6.3″ Dynamic AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate. This same AMOLED screen is used for the 7.6″ display when the phone is unfolded. This display has 2160x1856px resolution.
The battery on the new Fold6 has 4400mAh capacity. This is considered standard these days as battery capacity goes through the 6K digit. As always, Samsung plays it safe by only using 25W fast charging and 15W wireless charging.
Its colours include Pink, Navy, and our favourite: Silver Shadow. We’re waiting for that eventual SEGA/Sonic collab. The phone boots with Android 14 with Samsung’s OneUI 6.1.1 on top. The phone is purchasable via Shopee for a starting affordable price of PHP 105,990 with 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM. The RAM is the same for every type of Z Fold6 but the storage differs. There is a 512GB version priced at PHP 113,990 and a 1TB option for PHP 130,990. To buy, you just need to sell your own house and a kidney so at least you could buy food.

SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP6
This is the Z Flip6. In terms of its design, not much has improved from the Z Flip5. The back of the phone still features the same folder-shaped secondary display. Most of the changes comes from the price, colours, and of course, integration of Galaxy AI. It’s a tech company after all. Although not that much different compared to its predecessor, there are still some improvements under the hood. Whether this is worth the heavier price tag is up to debate.
The main improvement comes from the camera. See, now it uses a 50MP Primary camera. There are still two cameras here and the ultrawide camera has no changes. Also, just like the Z Fold6, it now has proper certifications to protect against dust. It’s the same rating, IP48 but at least it’s better protected against dust now which is crucial for a phone with mechanical parts.
The battery is slightly larger, 4000mAh (vs 3700mAh) but the charging rate remains the same at 25W. The chipset is obviously newer too, the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. Samsung has deliberately halted the Exynos flagship chips after a series of disappointments to performance and optimization. It’s a necessary step for them to evaluate what’s wrong with their own chipsets.
The display (including rear cover display) remained intact. The phone comes with more RAM now, from 8GB to 12GB. The Galaxy Z Flip6 comes in a variety of fruity colours and their way of colouring them is pretty interesting. Sounds like they hired Apple’s new designer here. There is way, way lots of colours to choose from. These include the signature Silver Shadow and Crafted Black, as well as Yellow, Blue, Mint, White, and Peach.
The new Flip6 starts at PHP 70,990 (12/256) and PHP 78,990 (12/512). Pre-order one at your nearest Samsung Concept Store or through the company’s website and official Lazada channel.
If you pre-order, you’ll also get one year FREE for Samsung Care+, Samsung’s own customer care and warranty service. Pre-order ends on July 31 for both devices.
