The TECNO POVA 6 Pro Is Available in the Philippines with an Aggressive Gaming Aesthetic

And a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 chip. Well… there’s always going to be a compromise.

Promotional image says good enough to run Farlight 84, a fairly demanding game. Well, let’s just wait for reviews to come but for now, Tecno’s most hyped phone of the month, the gaming-centric POVA 6 Pro has arrived in the Philippines with a staggering PHP 11,999 price tag!

The phone’s design, called “Dynamic Tech”, is based of a geometric and futuristic design that the series has been going for since the POVA 4. It just gets more aggressive from here. Also, that back design features notification LEDs in lieu of Nothing’s glyph lighting. It’s not just for show, there are over 100 user-defined lighting effects consisting of over 200 MiniLED beads plastered all over the body. It comes in two colours: Meteorite Grey and Comet Green.

Not just that, if you actually buy it today until tomorrow on Shopee, the phone is discounted to PHP 9,999. Well, not that surprising. Shopee always has a 30% off voucher (capped at PHP 1,200). Its main highlights include the fairly large 6000mAh battery and 70W fast charging. In hindsight, the POVA series has always been about big batteries and unique designs.

Cameras are not the biggest priority. Here, there is a 108MP primary shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. There’s also what appears to be a ring flash and an additional LED flash at the top. This arrangement is based on Tecno’s previous phones which are then based off the iPhone 14 or 15 series. At least they got the selfie sensor correct. Here, it’s a 32MP shooter.

A noticeable upgrade is the series’ transsionsition to AMOLED. Previously, the POVA series used an IPS LCD screen with high refresh rate but Tecno has figured it out that they can actually implement both high refresh rates (here, it’s 120Hz) and AMOLED at the same time without sacrificing a good price tag. To specify, this here’s POVA 6 Pro comes with a 6.78″ FullHD+ (2400x1080px) 120Hz AMOLED with 2160Hz PWM Dimming.

Well… even though they can combine both of these, there still has some sacrifices to be made and sadly the chipset took the toll. We imagine that the POVA 6 Pro could have gotten a much better chipset if it retained the IPS LCD screen but looks are everything. The Dimensity 6080 (Dimensity 810) inside is not all so bad but if they used something much better, say the Dimensity 1080, the price would exponentially go up. The phone here has 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM.

Expanding on that battery, while the phone is only 7.58mm thick, the brand managed to put a 6000mAh battery cell in there. Perhaps divided into two. It has its upsides and downsides. The main advantage of splitting a cell is to fit a high capacity battery into a small enclosure, and its main downside is that these two batteries will degrade inconsistently so one battery may die but the other might still be healthy. Remember, Tecno still has to insert the cooling plate somewhere here.

One of the rare features of any Tecno phone is the Infrared Sensor. We like that mainstream brands are bringing this back. It’s a great tool to control appliances in case you lose the remote control for them. Its this simple extra functionality that makes the POVA 6 Pro’s price truly worth it. You don’t just look at the chipset… though as a gaming phone, that chipset is one of the main focal points on the spec sheet.

Though the phone is sponsored by Lilith Games, developer of Farlight 84, it does not seem to have Farlight-themed goodies. We’re not sure if they ever plan on making one like how Infinix did at one point for Mobile Legends and Garena FreeFire. Inside, there are really only three things and the case is not one of them.

A standard feature for most Transsion phones are good sound quality, and on gaming phones that’s almost a requirement. There are two speakers present here with DTS enhancement. We’ve seen this in action on a budget phone, the Tecno Spark Go 2024 and we can’t wait to show you how it sounds like!

It is up for grabs now. Again, it is priced at PHP 11,999 (12/256) but on Shopee, you can bring the price down further to PHP 9,999.
