As thin as your 50-leaf notebook. And probably a little impractical to hold.
Honor went all-out today with two new releases, the significantly upgraded X8b and the Magic V2 which we never even thought would make a landing here. That’s how confident Honor sounded. The X8b is for another article.
The main feature of this phone is its thinness and the experience you can have with it. Its official hashtag #Experiencemagicbeyondthegalaxy might be a hint and a job towards a certain Korean maker of foldable handsets (maybe). The other is #WorldsThinnestFoldablePhone which, frankly, it is. It has beaten out the Huawei Mate X3 in terms of thickness. The Magic V2 is only 9.9mm thick when folded and 4.7mm unfolded. See, in spite of its thickness, the hinge is also durable and made of titanium. The visible folded line, called the crease, is also not visible.
In terms of its specs, it’s a flagship all throughout. It uses an OLED display of course because you can actually fold an OLED screen unlike an IPS LCD which uses a backlight. This screen is 6.43″ tall when used like a smartphone and 7.43″ wide when used like a tablet. Both of these states lets you run up to 120Hz in refresh rate.
Inside you can find a dual-cell SiC battery allowing Honor to fit a smaller-sized battery with a big capacity. It’s a 5000mAh cell and charges via a 66W Honor SuperCharge charging cable and brick (but you can use third-party chargers and get a similar effect so as long it’s above or equal to 66W). Here, you will also find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. It’s not the latest but it’s still pretty powerful.
There are three cameras here. The size and form factor allows Honor to add more than two cameras unlike with a clamshell design. Unlike budget phones, the triple camera here actually acts like a triple camera system. It consists of two 50MP cameras and a single 20MP telephoto. At the front is a 16MP wide camera. The first 50MP is the primary and the second is an ultrawide.
Part of the experience in the tagline goes to the IR Blaster, a pretty rare feature on any smartphone, even on flagships, IMAX Enhanced certification which allows you to view movies like they are on the big screen, 24-bit HDR triple microphone reception for clear calls, and DTS:X Ultra sound enhancement. We know that not everyone needs these features as some are happy with their budget devices, but it’s nice to have and the experience is truly something different.
Of course it has 5G connectivity, Dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.3. NFC is also supported. You can get it for PHP 79,999 if you have the kidney to trade it with. When you do get the foldable phone for the first time, you do get a wide array of worthy freebies which are yet to be announced.
