This chip is designed to further improve image quality through post-processing and AI
Vivo teased its V3 Imaging Chip during its Imaging Festival in China from July 23 to July 31. According to company VP and General Manager of Brand & Product Strategy, Jia Jingdong, this chip is intended to make 4K portrait video possible on their flagships, similar to what the iPhone 14 Pro is capable of.
It’s best to believe that this isn’t the only feature this imaging chip would be able to surmount. We should also expect better video and image quality, especially in HDR and Hi-Res modes, and better scene detection, especially at night.

It’s an easy bet to say that this chip would debut first on the upcoming Zeiss-powered Vivo X100 which is expected to debut by the end of 2023. Aside from that phone, Vivo has made no announcements yet which phone will also use this chip. We’re expecting results from DXOMark anytime soon since they also have tested the Vivo X90 and the Oppo Find X6 Pro. The latter has its own MariSilicon X imaging chip inside which is one of the primary reasons why the phone is in the top 5 of the best cameras in the flagship segment. Sadly, Oppo will no longer manufacture these because it’s not economically viable.
We’re hoping that’s not the same fate that Vivo’s V3 chips would lead to.
