The Itel P40 has been announced.

This is what happens when Huawei and POCO had a baby

After the A60, Itel launched yet another budget phone. And oh, what do we have here? This design, it looks so familiar. It reminds us of something yellow, small, speedy, full of glitches.

If you’re thinking “POCO” well then, you’re right! The phone is made by the same factory that created the POCO M5 series hence the familiar look. However, this phone is even more budget-oriented than that one. Also, the name sounds like flagship but, rule of thumb, if it’s a P40 and not made by Huawei, chances are, it’s not a flagship phone.

In all seriousness though, the looks of the POCO M5 are decent and it’s nice seeing it at a more accessible price. Wingtech is the ODM that made this familiar design.

Onto the specs, the phone has a 6.6″ HD+ (1612x720px) IPS LCD screen. The company claims this phone has a 120Hz variable refresh rate which we find hard to believe because its chipset does not support it, nor can you find one at this price range.

Speaking of chipsets, this one uses the infamous 28nm UNISOC SC9863A which seems to be the go-to for many budget phones if not the Helio G35, UNISOC SC7731E, or UNISOC T610. Don’t let the marketing materials fool you, it doesn’t have 7GB RAM. They did put a disclaimer though, but it’s hard to see. This “7GB RAM” is merely virtual. The actual RAM is 2-4GB. The actual RAM/storage options are 2/64, 3/32, and 4/64.

It has a dual camera setup comprising of an f/1.85 13MP primary and a 2MP depth camera. You also get an 8MP selfie camera tucked on top of the waterdrop notch.

The phone has a rear fingeprint scanner and also supports face unlock. It has 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, 4G LTE, a dual Nano-SIM Slot, and a MicroSD Card slot. Additionally, it has a 3.5mm jack, a 6000mAh battery with 18W fast charging (USB-C), and one-year of screen replacement although it depends on the location.

Price in the Philippines is yet to be announced. It comes in three colours: Force Black, Luxurious Gold, and Dreamy Blue.
