The POCO X5 and X5 Pro are now available in the Philippines!

POCO today has officially brought the X5 and X5 Pro to the Philippines. They obviously succeed the preceding X4 and X4 Pro. The phones appear to be POCO-fied Redmi Note 12 and Redmi Note 12 Speed Edition respectively. The biggest change is the large POCO logo at the back and, of course, POCO Yellow. The X series serves as POCO’s higher midrange offering.

Their main highlight is their 120Hz OLED display, which the company calls “Flow AMOLED” because the refresh rate changes depending on your activity. Also, this is no ordinary AMOLED screen as it has a 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut, a spec usually seen on expensive flagships. This allows for superior contrasts and more accurate colours that could be processed by the phone.

There are some small yet significant differences between these two displays. The X5 is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 while the X5 Pro gets a higher quality 10-bit screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The two phones have identical battery capacities but different charging rates. Both get a 5000mAh battery but charging speeds are 33W and 67W respectively. The latter is similar to the Redmi Note 12 Speed Edition which the X5 Pro is a rebrand of.

Of course, the two use different chipsets because of their different pricing. The X5 gets the company favourite Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 while the X5 Pro gets a Snapdragon 778G. Storage/RAM choices include 6/128 and 8/256 for both handsets. The POCO X5 keeps the same chipset as the POCO X4 Pro but also provides double the base storage.

Cameras are also different. The primary camera of the X5 is a 48MP shooter while the X5 Pro gets a 108MP sensor. They are complemented by the same useless duos you’ve seen in countless midrange phones. You know ’em, you love ’em, it’s the 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro cameras. Both phones have their selfie camera situated in the middle of the display. These cameras have a resolution of 13MP and 16MP respectively.

In terms of ports and connectivity, they are identical. Both phones come with a Dual Nano-SIM slot, a 3.5mm jack, a USB-C port, 5G services, an IR Blaster, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The IR Blaster allows you to control compatible infrared appliances and devices using your phone. Both phones run MIUI 14 based on Android 13.

AVAILABILITY:

The phones are now ready for pre-orders. As always, POCO treats their new handsets with early bird prices. Prices are slashed from Php 14,999 (6/128) to just Php 12,499. The same also applies to the 8/256 configuration where its price is temporarily discounted to Php 13,499 from Php 15,999. Colour options include Black, Blue, and Green.

Meanwhile, the X5 Pro, from Php 16,999, the 6/128 configuration is currently available for only Php 15,659 while the highest end, 8/256, dropped from Php 18,999 to just Php 17,659. The early bird promos are only valid until February 13th. The pre-order period also comes bundled with a free smart band if you’re fast enough to be included with the first 2000 buyers. Colour options for this phone include Black, Blue, and POCO Yellow.

Both phones are available online but they are separated from Shopee and Lazada. The POCO X5 is only available through the former while the Pro is available only through the latter.
