Taking budget phones up a notch! That’s what the Spark 9 Pro is.

It comes with a flashy design and a 90Hz screen. Typical for a budget phone. However, the 32mp front camera is the deal-breaker here!

It’s not often we see budget phones crafted with a lot of effort. That’s basically what we like about the new Spark 9 Pro. It stands out from the sea of matte and glossy plastics. It also makes you feel like you’re holding something classy.

The Tecno Spark 9 Pro comes with the usual specs seen on a lot of budget phones, with one main exception. Pretty sure you’ve read the subtitle already. If you haven’t, then it’s the 32MP camera. No clickbaiting here, just straightforward facts.

Let’s get on with the specs. It has a 6.6in. FHD+ (2400x1080px) IPS LCD with 90Hz refresh rate. There are three cameras protected by two large circular casings, similar to the Huawei P50 series. The main camera has 48mp resolution, while the other two are just fillers just so to call it a “triple-camera setup”. These are the 2mp macro and AI cameras. As we said earlier, the one thing it stands out, aside from its design, from other budget phones is the 32mp front camera. Double than the usual ones we have. However, it does come with a waterdrop notch which is already dated at this point.

The phone is powered by a Mediatek Helio G85. The choice of using this chipset may stem from trying not to cannibalize the slightly more powerful Pova 3 which came with a Helio G88 chipset. Along with the Helio G85 chipset comes the 4 or 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage that can be further expanded through the use of a MicroSD card. To complete the specs sheet, there is a 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging, USB-C port, 3.5mm jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner as well as 4G LTE connectivity.

It boots with HiOS 8.6 based on Android 12. It comes in four colours, all of which come with a very interesting design, and fits the young demographic the phone is catering to. These colours include Quantum Black, Burano Blue, Holy White, and Hacker Storm (Green) colours. Interesting names, Tecno. Did you take lessons from Google?

The phone is launching first in Africa and then globally, possibly also the Philippines.
