Vivo has launched their X80 flagship phone with Zeiss-coated lenses!

The successor of the X70 series is here with an outstanding design.

Vivo has finally unveiled their next-generation camera phone again under cooperation with Zeiss. Introducing… the Vivo X80 series!

The design of the phone reminds us of its gaming division iQoo, especially the orange matte colour. The series does not include the X80 Pro+ although that could be revealed after some time. There are two versions of the X80 Pro, one with Snapdragon and the other with Dimensity. This strategy can be traced back to its sibling, Oppo. They used the same strategy for their Find X5 series of phones with Hasselblad.

It is a high-end flagship in all due respects. Unlike other similar flagships, this one uses a 6.78in Samsung E5 LTPO2 AMOLED screen with QHD+ resolution and variable refresh rates ranging from 1 to 120Hz. Compared to the X70 Pro+, the display of this phone is far more responsive, as Vivo claimed. Inside the display is the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner which only a handful of flagships use even to this day.

The camera is its main selling point, especially with the visible Zeiss branding on it. The main camera is a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GNV sensor with OIS and a bright f/1.57 aperture. To help with the focusing, it has Autofocus and Pixel Shift technologies embedded. This camera is paired with three other cameras. There is your 12mp Sony IMX663 telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom and a lens size of 1/2″. This is pretty large and allows more light to pass through, resulting in brighter, sharper images. This camera is aided by the gimbal-like OIS that the company has first introduced.

There is another telephoto, an 8mp one for periscopic shots. Like the 12mp shooter, this one also has OIS to help stabilize the image especially if capturing an image at far distances by hand. This camera is nearly identical to its predecessor, the X70 Pro. Finally, you have the Sony 48mp IMX598 ultrawide lens with a 1/2.0in. sensor. All these cameras are Zeiss coated to help them protect from scratches and also, there are built-in Zeiss features to keep your photography game feel more professional. It also makes use of the in-house Vivo V1+ ISP chip. The front camera is 32mp sitting on a punch-hole notch.

A typically sized 4700mAh keeps the phone from dying out. And if it ever does die out, charge within a blink of an eye with Vivo’s 80W charging capability that’s paired with 50W fast wireless charging as well as reverse charging.

It has a 27-layer vapour chamber cooling system, Hi-Fi audio, and an IP68 rating. This means, the phone is protected when you accidentally dropped in a bucket of water during a bath. There are two types. Depending on the colour of your choice, you may get an AG Glass back or a back made with vegan leather.

There are three colours: Black, Orange, and Green although the green colourway looks more turquoise than green.

According to Vivo’s website, the 12/256 version starts at CNY 5,999 (~Php 47.8K) and the 12/512 version starts at CNY 6,699 (~Php 53.4K). However, this is for the Dimensity 9000 variant. The Snapdragon variant has three options. Vivo X80

The Vivo X80 isn’t much different in terms of appearance from its higher-end variant. The specs are different to justify the lower price tag. The screen used here is still AMOLED but no longer LTPO2 which means it uses a standard FHD+ resolution. It uses a less impressive Samsung E5 AMOLED but still quite competitive for a flagship. The screen still retained the variable 120Hz refresh rate and DCI-P3 colour gamut as well as HDR10+ and 1500nits peak brightness.

There is only one variant now, the Dimensity 9000 variant. This is paired with a similar configuration as the Pro version but now it has the addition of the 8/128 configuration.

The cameras are also nerfed. It retains the Zeiss T* coating but the lenses are far more inferior. It uses the slightly older Sony IMX866 sensor which still has 50mp resolution and OIS. It has 1/1.49″ RGBW sensor and an aperture of f/1.75. The ultrawide camera is a midrange 12mp Sony IMX663 with f/2.0 aperture. The phone also lacks a periscope but it retained the 2x zoom camera albeit with some changes. The aperture is narrower at f/1.98 which means darker imagery. The front camera is shared from the X80 Pro

The battery this phone comes with is a little smaller, at 4500mAh capacity and has no wireless charging. The 80W fast charging has remained, however. It also has a standard in-display fingerprint and has no IP rating. Both phones launch with Vivo’s new OriginOS Ocean based on Android 12. The global version will get FunTouchOS based on Android 12

The two phones share a similar colourway of Green (Turquoise), Black, and Orange. It starts at CNY 3,699 (~Php 29.5K) for the 8/128 option, CNY 3,999 (~Php 31.9K) for the 8/256 option, CNY 4,399 (~Php 35.1K) for the 12/256 configuration, and CNY 4,899 (~Php 39K) for the highest 12/512 option. Pre-orders for both devices start 29th April
