Samsung launches the three A-series phones, all of them have two things in common: NO CHARGERS and HEADPHONE JACKS!

Chargers and headphone jacks sold as DLCs. Great move Sammy.

Samsung Galaxy A53, now available for pre-orders

Oh Sammy Sammy Sammy… You poke fun of Apple all the time for removing certain important features. We haven’t forgotten about that one ad for the Galaxy Note 10 saying chargers are included. And no “you have a charger at home” isn’t an excuse. What’s that? You can buy a dongle? Of course. Create a problem, sell a solution. Soon enough, everything will become a DLC, even the screen.

So that’s what Samsung did for the Galaxy A series this time around. There are three phones in the series, all of which have 5G in them. These are the A33, A53, and A73. There’s no word yet about the A13 or A23.

Galaxy A33 5G

A33 (Left), A53 (Right)

The new A series is a sidegrade to the previous A series. Let’s start first with the A33. One of the few good things about the A series is that they have an IP rating, which, for their price range, is unheard of. All three phones have an IP67 rating.

The A33 comes with a 6.4in. FHD+ (2400x1080px) SAMOLED panel with 90Hz refresh rate. It has four cameras, the main camera is 48MP with OIS, and for its price range, is quite rare. It is complemented by an 8mp ultrawide camera along with a 2mp macro and depth camera that are still fruitless. The front camera is situated on top of a dewdrop notch and has a resolution of 13mp.

For its processor, it is equipped with a 5nm Samsung Exynos 1280 chip paired with 6 or 8GB RAM and either 128 or 256GB storage. Samsung did not reveal the details of this chipset.

It has an in-display fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 5.1, 5G services (duh), 2.4/5GHZ Wi-Fi, and dual-SIM slots. NFC is not announced. It has a 5000mAh battery with 25W fast charging.

It comes in three colours all prefixed with “Awesome”. These are the Awesome Black, White, and Awesome Peach. The 6/128 configuration is priced at Php18,990. The 8/128 version is priced at Php19,990, and the 8/256 version is priced at Php21,990. Unlike the next two phones, the A33 5G is exclusively sold online.

Galaxy A53 5G

Colours of the A53 5G

The A53 5G is almost the same ordeal as the A52 5G, with some minor differences. The main ones include the lack of a charger and headphone jack to speak of. The design remains nearly similar, if not identical.

The phone has a 6.5in. FHD+ (2400x1080px) SAMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate which is a lot faster than the 90Hz refresh rate on the previous device. Like the rest of the series, it has IP67 water and dust resistance rating.

The cameras are unchanged from the A52 5G. The A53 5G retained the 64mp main camera with OIS along with the 12mp ultrawide and two 5mp cameras for depth and macro. Granted still not practical under normal circumstances, but it’s still more useful than 2mp cameras. In front is the 32mp camera, unchanged from the previous phone.

Like the A33 5G, the A53 5G is also equipped with the 5nm Exynos 1280 chip that Samsung is shy to tell us about. It is complemented with either 6 or 8GB RAM and either 128 or 256GB internal storage. The phone is also MicroSD expandable, up to 1TB

The battery has 5000mAh capacity and has 25W fast charging. Unchanged from the A52 series.

There are three colours: Awesome Black, White, and Peach. The 6/128 is online-exclusive and is priced at Php 22,990 while the 8/128 version is available both offline and online and would cost you Php23,490. There’s also the 8/256 version with a starting price of Php25,490

SPECS:

  • 6.5in. FHD+ (2400x1080px) SAMOLED, 120Hz

Galaxy A73 5G

This phone is a sidegrade of the A72 5G, however, there are a few notable changes.

The screen is a 6.7in. FHD+ (2400x1080px) SAMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate. It also has an Ingress Protection level of 6 and 7. We’ll talk about IP ratings in a future article.

The cameras have been upgraded to a 108mp from the previous 64mp, but it thankfully kept the OIS. Other cameras like the ultrawide, depth, and macro were all retained for this device.

There’s a 5000mAh battery with 25W fast charging and an in-display fingerprint sensor. Because the A72 5G has NFC, we can assume this one has NFC as well.

It is available in Awesome Mint, Awesome White, and Awesome Grey colours. The Snapdragon 778G chipset inside the phone is complemented with 8GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB storage.

All three phones run with OneUI 4.1 based on Android 12. The 8/128 version is priced at Php27,990 while the 8/256 version starts at Php29,990. Unlike the latter two, the A73 5G is purchasable both offline and online.

Or you can just get the previous A series, as all of them kept the headphone jack and charger

SPECS:

  • 6.7in. FHD+ (2400x1080px) SAMOLED, 120Hz
    • IP67 water and dust resistance
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G (6nm)
  • CAMERAS:
    • 108mp (main), f/1.8, OIS
    • 12mp (ultrawide), f/2.2
    • 5mp (macro), f/2.4
    • 5mp (depth), f/2.4
    • FRONT: 32mp (main)
  • 5000mAh, 25W fast charging
  • no 3.5mm jack, no charger in box, 5G services, Dual SIM Slot
  • OneUI 4.1 based on Android 12
  • Awesome Mint, Awesome White, Awesome Grey
  • PRICE:
    • 8/128: Php27,990
    • 8/256: Php29,990

All three phones will be available on 1st April. This is appropriate because all three phones are a joke in comparison to the previous A series.
