Samsung releases the Galaxy A13 and A23. They are basic budget phones with 50mp cameras and fast charging, but with a terrible quality screen.

Samsung might be the only company that’s bold enough to say they use TFT screens.

Samsung has released two new budget phones with a familiar design. These are the Galaxy A13 and Galaxy A23. Both of these don’t have 5G capability, but they boast a 50mp main camera and a wide variety of matte-like colours. Their main weakness? The display. It’s only a TFT screen which is horribly outdated, even by budget phone or TV standards.

Samsugn Galaxy A13

The Galaxy A13 features a 6.6in. FHD+ (2408x1080px) TFT display, a quad camera setup comprising of a 50mp main sensor, 5mp ultrawide, and of course, the infamous 2mp depth and macro cameras. In front is the 8mp selfie camera sitting on top of the waterdrop notch. What’s fancy here is that it launches with Android 12 with OneUI 4.1 on top, whereas some more expensive handset launch with Android 11. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which is one of the only redeeming features of this screen (the other being the resolution).

The chipset used by the A13 isn’t announced, strangely. Although it is an octa-core chipset with a clock speed combination of 2.2GHz and 2.0GHz, respectively. It will be paired with a 3/4/6GB RAM with either 32/64/128GB internal storage. Knowing Samsung, the chipset inside of this phone might be an Exynos chip or the Helio G80.

The entire phone is powered by a 5000mAh battery with 25W fast charging. For a budget phone, this is actually pretty fast, and pretty rare to see too. There’s Samsung Knox for security as well as a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometrics

While the phone is not yet available in the Philippines, it is now available in the Netherlands with a price of EUR 190 (~Php 10.7K) for the 4/64 version and EUR 210 (~Php 11.9K) for the 4/128 version. While there are other configurations, these two are currently, as of this writing, the only ones listed.

Samsung Galaxy A23

The Samsung Galaxy A23 is almost identical with the A13 except it has a different configuration for its still unidentified chipset (2.4GHz and 1.9GHz, respectively) and a lack of a 32GB storage option. Everything else like colours, cameras, display, and security features are all kept intact.
