The Oppo A36 is Oppo’s counterpart to the Vivo Y32

Comes with the same 6nm Snapdragon 680 chip as the Vivo Y32.

Oppo’s budget phones are not the best in terms of pricing, as they tend to be more expensive than Realme’s or Xiaomi’s. People got used to this notion and this forced multiple manufacturers to adjust, even the behemoth that is Oppo and Samsung. However, pricing range aside, Oppo provides a better user experience with a little more money to lash out.

As a BBK brand, one would expect that one would release first before the other, it’s either Vivo or Oppo that would go first and the other brand would follow. In other words, if Vivo releases a budget phone, then Oppo or Realme would also release a phone of similar caliber and probably a slightly different design.

That’s what has happened with the A36. It is essentially their version of the Y32 which is the first phone with the 4G-only Snapdragon 680.

In terms of display, it is a curved 6.56in. IPS LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and HD+ resolution. They finally up the stakes in their budget line in terms of refresh rates. There are two cameras at the back and thankfully, a dot notch that houses the 8mp front camera. The main camera is 13mp and the second camera is just a filler 2mp depth for the so-called “bokeh” effect that helps in isolating the subject and blurring the background.

There’s also the standard 5000mAh battery with regular 10W charging. It boots with Android 11 at the ready with Oppo’s ColorOS 11.1 skin on top. For biometrics, there’s a side-mounted fingerprint sensor with support for face unlock.

It supports 4G services, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0. It also has a built-in receiver so you can listen to your favourite radio stations.

In China, the phone starts at CNY 1,599 (~Php 12.9K) for the 8GB LPDDR4X RAM/128GB UFS 2.2 internal storage configuration. International release is yet to be announced.
