Although, we are not a fan of the character designs
An animated series based on the Asia-popular MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) Mobile Legends is set to air on ABS-CBN this fall (or around September). It was first announced on Twitter and will focus around characters of the mobile game.
In line with the show, the developer, Moonton, has also teased posters of what its character designs look like. Before we get into that, Moonton developing an animated show may not be entirely coincidental, seeing that Riot is also planning to release an animated series based on LoL. Another example of a TV adaptation of MOBA is DoTA: Dragon’s Blood, which is also on Netflix
Prepare to lower your expectations and be disappointed, unlike the aforementioned DOTA and LoL animated series, this one looks way cheaper and cartoonier, as if made for Children. In case you weren’t aware, Moonton can make a decent character design and animation, proven by the anime-styled Mobile Legends Adventures. It’s pretty appalling to see that, for a company with a multimillion dollar revenue, make character designs so bland and plain. They should have stuck to the anime style of MLA and they would probably even attract anime fans into the mix. It’s disappointing.
Also, is it just us, or does the logo remind you of Final Fantasy especially the subtitle “The Sacred Stone”?
However, we are not going to judge too much here, as the saying goes “do not judge a book by its cover“. We are still optimistic that the show may turn out to be good, we hope so. The storytelling may be decent and the settings and backgrounds may be breathtaking. We’ll wait until it airs before we can truly judge it.
The show will also air in different Southeast Asian countries as well as in China through WeTV, a video sharing platform owned by Tencent (yes, that Tencent, owner of Riot Games and LoL, ironic isn’t it?). It will air on Malaysia through TV9, and in Indonesia through Net Media.
This is Moonton’s description of Legends of Dawn: “(Legends of Dawn) will bring our beloved heroes to life as they venture through the Imperial Capital in search of the Sacred Stone.” “Fans will enjoy a light-hearted and comedic journey filled with refreshing visuals.”
With a description like that and character designs that disappointing, we’re pretty sure we’re just seeing a LEGO adaptation of Mobile Legends (or maybe Superbook, we don’t know)
