Omnivision announces the new OV50A image sensor with 100% PDAF and will debut on flagship smartphones

Recently, Omnivision announced a 50MP sensor ahead of MWC Shanghai with 100% PDAF that helps in improved autofocus, the first for the company.

The new Image Sensor will debut on flagship devices. As per Omnivision, the sensor has 1.0µm pixel size and 1/1.5″ optical format with QPD (Quad Phase Detection) autofocus technology. This new technology enables the sensor to calculate distances better, faster autofocus and improved low-light performance, which in turn enhances the photo quality for the wide and ultrawide sensors.

This new sensor is also coming with the proprietary Purecel Plus-S that is paired with the previously mentioned QPD technology. The combination of the QPD colour filter and Purecel technology meant that the sensor could provide improved quality images with improved autofocus performance and high quality 50MP photos. This also meant that the sensor can take 50MP 8K video in real time at 30fps, 12.5MP 4K video at 60fps and 4K video at 90fps
