Cherry Mobile’s first 5G phones may be powered by a Mediatek chipset

Cherry Mobile, a leading Filipino smartphone maker, has reportedly been working on a 5G smartphone. Mediatek has confirmed that these 5G phones will be powered by their chipset, possibly a Mediatek Dimensity 720 or 800U chipset. We also can’t rule out a possibility of a Dimensity 1000+ on the phone.

The Dimensity 720 is a 5G 7nm chipset that uses a Cortex-A76 and Cortex A-55 CPUs. The chipset also uses the Mali-G57 MC3 as its GPU. One example of a phone that uses the chipset is the Oppo A72 5G.

The Dimensity 800u is identical to the Dimensity 720. It is also a 7nm 5G chipset that uses both Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55 CPU, as well as the same GPU. Their difference lies in their clock speeds. The Dimensity 800u can be clocked up to 2.4GHz, while the Dimensity 720 can only be clocked up to 2GHz. Also, the Dimensity 800u supports up to 120Hz refresh rate while the Dimensity 720 can only support up to 90Hz.

Take note that this is just speculation. But with Cherry being a long-time partner of Mediatek, this is more than a huge possibility.
