We’re hoping to see the more innovative side of Apple from now on

Tim Cook announced that he will be stepping down as CEO of Apple, going for an Executive Chairman role in Apple’s Board of Directors, with John Ternus as his replacement. Cook will remain as CEO for the rest of summer and would assist Ternus in transitioning to his new role.
Tim Cook joined Apple in 1998 under Steve’s request. During this time, he closed down several local factories and instead opted for contract manufacturers, allowing the company to sell its products at a faster rate. When Jobs resigned as CEO in 2011, Cook took over the position and went for a more collaborative approach in Apple’s business culture.
Under Tim Cook, Apple saw significant changes, including a redesigned interface starting iOS 7, which used the now-popular flat design aesthetic. In addition, Apple’s market capitalization grew from around USD 350 billion to USD 4 trillion, and yearly revenue increased from about USD 108 billion in 2011 to USD 416 billion in 2025, making it the world’s second biggest tech company behind Amazon. It was also during this time that Apple started transitioning from using Intel-based processors to its in-house chips.
During Cook’s tenure, Apple saw a significant shift from selling hardware to providing services like Apple Music and Apple TV. This proves successful as the company gained USD 100 billion in revenue. The company now operates in more than 200 countries and has around 500 retail stores. In the Philippines, Apple products are sold through exclusive partners like Beyond the Box and Power Mac Center.
Who is John Ternus?

Before Ternus joined Apple in 2001, he was designing virtual reality headsets at Virtual Research Systems. Afterwards, he worked for Apple as part of the company’s product design team and was instrumental in bringing the now-discontinued Apple Cinema Display. In 2013, he was appointed as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering under Dan Riccio, which is his current role up until the rest of summer.
He foresaw the launches of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, as well as the MacBook Neo, an affordable variant of the Macbook Air. Ternus was also crucial in introducing new product lines towards Apple’s portfolio, including iPhones and iPads, as well as new generations of AirPods, Mac, and Apple Watch, according to a press release.
In addition, Apple has announced that Johny Srouji is the company’s Chief Hardware Officer, effective immediately. He replaces Ternus as the company’s hardware engineering lead, a role that Ternus fulfilled until he becomes CEO.
