POCO X8 Pro Max Launched in the Philippines with a Surprising Price Tag

You’ll never believe us when we tell you how much it costs.

Xiaomi Philippines, and by extension POCO Philippines, officially launched the POCO X8 Pro Max alongside its “weaker” sibling, the POCO X8 Pro. For those in-the-know about China ROM phones, you might see that the POCO X8 Pro Max looks familiar. That is because the phone is the global variant of the Redmi Turbo 5 Max but with some small changes, including 500mAh less battery.

POCO X8 Pro Max in Blue

As with the POCO X8 Pro, the POCO X8 Pro Max comes in a clean and minimalist design, almost identical to it even. Its design is so similar that even POCO Global posted a “find the difference” game to its Facebook page. What is true, however, the POCO X8 Pro Max comes with a metallic frame and back, so the feel is much more premium than the POCO X8 Pro.

The POCO X8 Pro Max has the same IP ratings as the POCO X8 Pro. These are IP66, IP68, and IP69K. That means the phone is watertight and guarantees protection against dust and ingress. Get this, the POCO X8 Pro Max is eligible for E-SIM in the Philippines! A long-awaited feature that makes it even more worth it.

In terms of the display, the only difference between the POCO X8 Pro and the Pro Max are the sizes. The POCO X8 Pro Max is larger, at 6.83” but the overall specifications remain the same. Those are a 1.5K CrystalRes AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and 3840Hz PWM Dimming

The chipset used here is the MediaTek Dimensity 9500s, which is a version of the Dimensity 9500 focused more on power efficiency than raw performance. Still, it can handle many mainstream mobile games like Wuthering Waves and Genshin Impact at high graphics with ease, thanks in part, to the 12GB RAM and a choice between 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.1 storage that it has.

The battery has seen a massive upgrade too in comparison to previous handsets. Yes, even against the POCO F8 Ultra. The POCO X8 Pro Max has a whoppingly large 8500mAh Si/C (Silicon-Carbon) battery complemented with 100W fast charging, as with the POCO X8 Pro. Its Chinese counterpart has 9000mAh instead. Don’t fret, the battery capacity is not noticeable. The phone also supports up to 27W reverse wired charging and Power Delivery 3.0.

As a gaming handset, cameras are not the highest priority, so it uses the same setup as the POCO X8 Pro. The main difference lies in the sensor used for the 50MP wide main camera. Instead of the Sony IMX882, the POCO X8 Pro Max uses an Omnivision OV50B, marketed as the “Light Fusion 600” in many of POCO’s materials. It also comes with an 8MP ultrawide camera that is not specified and a 20MP front camera. Don’t fix what’s not broke.

As with the POCO X8 Pro, the X8 Pro Max has stereo speakers with Hi-Res Audio (wired and wireless) and Dolby Atmos audio enhancements for a rich, clear, and detailed sound. Try it with lossless audio players to feel the difference.

And finally, the biometrics and ports. The POCO X8 Pro Max comes with a significantly faster and more accurate ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, versus the standard optical one used on the POCO X8 Pro. Facial scanning is also available. The phone has a USB-C port, IR Blaster, and dual SIM Slots. We don’t have to tell you this, but the phone also has 5G, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.4 LE, Wi-Fi 7, and NFC connectivity.

The phone, like its sibling, comes in Black and White, as well as a unique Blue color. The phone comes in two variants, 12/256 and 12/512 with prices at PHP 25,999 and PHP 27,999 respectively. Up until March 26, you can get the phone for an astonishingly low price of PHP 18,999 through Shopee, where it is an exclusively sold device. There may be instances you may find the phone sold at legitimate third-party retailers but their deals might be different compared to the official one given by the brand.
