No, OnePlus Has Not Settled Down. Things Are Still Looking Bleak, However

No shutdown yet and no realme treatment yet… for now.

OnePlus 15, the company’s latest flagship

Just a day ago, an article by Android Headlines told of a story that OnePlus may be settling down for good and being reabsorbed back into Oppo, as what happened to realme. The reason for this news is due to OnePlus’ sales having gone downhill during the last few years. The brand is actually losing a lot of their pieces from the pie. It doesn’t help that OnePlus has closed several offices around the world, despite them still releasing phones that are praised by many reviewers and users alike, such as the OnePlus 15.

However, that rumor has completely been dismissed, as CEO of OnePlus India, Robin Liu, released a statement via X, formerly known as Twitter. In his tweet, OnePlus India (and specifically, only the India branch. This is important) said that operations will “continue as normal” and urged the media and stakeholders to verify information first before sharing sourceless claims.

However, keep in mind that this is only the India branch of OnePlus. The brand operates on a global scale. The brand actually has been expanded to its own store in the Philippines and has branched out from Digital Walker. Though, Digital Walker remains an official distributor in the Philippines. OnePlus actually sells phones in Europe and North America regions as well.

Recently, Android Headlines, updated their article, with response from OnePlus NA and OnePlus India. Since we covered already OnePlus India’s response, we will focus on what the North American branch has stated. In a nutshell, they said that the US branch will continue operating as normal, like India. This includes new smartphone units, after-sales, and software updates. The European branch has not responded but we will presume things there are like a normal Monday.

OnePlus sales dwindled in 2023 and 2024, with sales taking a 20% toll on a YoY basis, per Omdia. However, that is for North America. OnePlus India is also not looking good, as IDC reported that the brand dropped sharply, from 6.1% in 2023 to as little as 3.9% in 2024, with a YoY change rate of -32.6%. At the same time, GSMArena reported that Oppo shelled out a $14 billion life support on the brand. The future is not looking bright and if sales continue to dwindle, all but what the CEOs said is just massive copium. Also, Oppo has started absorbing the brand by taking away OnePlus’ Hasselblad collaboration and moving the popular optics brand’s talents to Oppo’s own line of flagships. That is an early sign OnePlus may not be doing well as we imagined.
