realme OFFICIALLY Launches the GT7 and GT7 T. A Gaming Phone That Breaks the Bank

Your bank account, we mean.

realme has hyped up the GT7 series for a long time now, even gaining a world record for continuous watching of a movie for 24 hours and still having 36% battery life left! An outstanding feat, considering it’s a gaming phone meant for… gaming. You need to have a phone that lasts longer than your last honeymoon and realme has got it.

realme Philippines has released two phones. The GT7 and GT7T. No Pro here but you probably don’t need it, since the GT7 functions almost the same with its powerful chipset, the all-new Dimensity 9400e, which is a power-efficient version of the base Dimensity 9400 from MediaTek. Meaanwhile, the GT7T gets a Dimensity 8400-Max. The “Max” name is just a marketing term that makes you believe that the phone is more powerful than its contemporaries in terms of raw power.

Due to how the realme GT6 was priced at launch, we thought it wouldn’t sell well. However, here we are a year later, and a sequel just came out. It sold well according to realme’s charts to warrant a sequel. What’s in the GT7 that made realme Philippines so enthusiastic to bring it here?

realme GT7

The realme GT7, for starters, has a MediaTek Dimensity 9400e chip with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB UFS 4.0 storage. The “e” suffix designates that the chip is a slightly lowered down variant of the Dimensity 9400. The phone has a 6.78″ LTPO AMOLED screen with 1.5K (2780x1264px) resolution. It’s brighter than your average flashlight at max 6000nits. As a phone intended for gaming, it’s quite tactile, at max 2600Hz touch control sampling and a standard of 360Hz.

The phone is disappointingly made of plastic. This is a no-no for a phone that costs almost as much as

At the back are the familiar cameras arranged in a simplistic square-looking camera island. Its main camera is a Sony IMX906 with 50MP resolution and OIS, a sensor powerful enough for this kind of handset. Alongside it are an 8MP ultrawide and a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN5 telephoto camera, also with OIS. At the front is the ol’ reliable 32MP camera. It’s a gaming phone and cameras are the least of realme’s concerns.

Have you noticed that many brands have ditched marketing for IP rating and went for large batteries instead? That is the way to do it. It benefits regular consumers and the brand hand-in-hand. Batteries continue to increase in capacity while the actual cartridge remains the same size or even somehow smaller. It isn’t magic, it’s science, and you can thank Silicon and Carbon for this breakthrough. Soon, we will see solid state batteries that allows phones to have capacities unimaginable at the same size and lasts longer than lithium ion!

The realme GT7 is equipped with a 7000mAh battery with 120W fast charging. Typical for a gaming phone like it. One good thing is that realme increased the battery capacity without nerfing the charging rate. Both of these are just as important on a phone intended to be used 24/7.

The phone is priced at PHP 37,999 (12/512) and comes in two colours IceSense Blue and IceSense Black. What is IceSense, you say? It is realme’s spin on the traditional graphene cooling wherein the entire phone is wrapped with graphene which the brand claims to give 10x better heat dissipation and thermal conductivity.

Other competing phones include the POCO X7, Xiaomi 15S Pro with the new XRing 01, and the upcoming Nothing Phone 3. All these phones are worthy alternatives to the GT7 if you aren’t looking for a phone that breaks your bank. The phone is slightly cheaper than the POCO F7 Ultra. However, that is saved due to it using a MediaTek chip instead of a Qualcomm chip like the POCO F7 Ultra.

realme GT 7T

There is another GT7 released for the Philippines called the GT 7T. What is this then? The realme GT 7T is essentially the GT7 but watered down, including chipset, RAM/ROM capacity, and cameras. Just like how car manufacturers have lower or higher trim levels for their cars, such as the Toyota Vios J being the weaker variant of the Toyota Vios XE, so does realme with their new phones. We forgot to mention that the brand is treating the GT series like a grand tourer, hence the name, and even collaborated with Ascom, Aston Martin’s F1 team and created a limited-time teal-coloured Dream Edition complete with a new design. We’ll discuss that one out later.

The GT 7T is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 8400-Max chipset with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.0 ROM. The cameras remained all but the telephoto which was removed to cut down costs. The same 32MP Sony IMX615 camera is used for selfies.

The display is also about the same, a 6.8″ AMOLED with 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Moreover, the battery is about the same, a 7000mAh SiC battery paired with 120W fast charging so no worries here.

The phone is a LOT cheaper, priced at PHP 29,999 but in turn, you get what you pay for as well. Lower price means lower specs. It still breaks your bank because there are many other phones within this range, such as the Tecno Camon 40 Pro and the Infinix Note 50 Pro Plus, that offer better hardware at an even lower cost. These two are not without its downsides though. These include the subpar software and ad-ridden interface.

realme GT7 Aramco “Aston Martin” Dream Edition

This is the “Dream Edition” namely so because you can only dream of getting it. It’s a teal-coloured special edition of the phone in partnership with Aston Martin and debuted in Paris, France.

It is essentially the realme GT7 with an Aston Martin livery. This means you’ll be getting the same performance and quality as a regular GT7, including display, cameras, chipset, and most importantly, battery capacity and charging speed.

It is also only slightly more expensive, at PHP 39,999. This phone has 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 4.0 ROM. Purchasing the phone means you also get a special limited-edition box with an Aston Martin theme complete with Aston Martin-themed software and UI.

To show how limited it is, you can only get the phone at SM Fairview and SM City North EDSA here in the Philippines.
