Get Ready to Edge with the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge

For those who love edging, this might be for you!

Not so long ago, around February, Samsung announced the Galaxy S25 trio which included the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and of course, the S25 Ultra. However, during that time, a new upcoming fourth member was anticipated thanks to a prototype (pictured above) that was visible during CES.

Now, Samsung has revealed that to be the slim brother of the Galaxy S25 family. Samsung called it the “Galaxy S25 Edge”, retaining the Edge brand name which went absent since the Galaxy S8 days, but under a new branding definition. Instead of the “Edge” series referring to a screen being, quite literally, at the edge, now it refers to Samsung’s slim phone line, if ever this trend clicks.

Companies never stopped making their phones the slimmest possible without sacrificing important parts, such as the battery and cameras. It’s a resurging trend which initially started in 2013. It seems like, after the IP-rating ordeal, this, alongside Silicon-Carbon batteries and AI, are going to be the next big thing.

The Galaxy S25 Edge weighs only 163 grams and measures only 5.8mm thick, it is one of the world’s thinnest smartphones. We aren’t so sure if thinner smartphones are ideal especially since they tend to slip so easily. However, the thing we agree is that it makes phones more aesthetically pleasing.

The S25 Edge, as thin as it is, is still a flagship at heart. Its display, a 6.7″ QHD+ Dynamic OLED 2x display, has a refresh rate of 120Hz and is protected by the new Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. A type of display that combines glass and ceramic to ensure extra strength especially when it falls at a height, and increase scratch resistance.

As a phone flaunting a minimalist design, it only has two cameras, both of which are highly functional. These are the 200MP primary camera and the 12MP ultrawide. The front selfie also has 12MP resolution. As always, in its press release, Samsung flaunted AI-based computational photography features, including a clearer, brighter “nightography” feature and AI Eraser and AI resolution enhancer.

As for its chipset, it’s pretty much expected. Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. The “for Galaxy” branding indicates that Samsung has modified the chipset to further suit their phones. It comes with 12GB RAM and a choice between 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.0 storage.

Now, the big question remains. How good is the battery for a phone that is touted to be very slim? Can it even fit a large battery inside? To help you answer that question, the Galaxy S25 Edge comes with a 3900mAh battery with 25W fast charging, as always. That’s a pretty impressive capacity considering its size and width. The reason Samsung and many other brands can now make their phones slimmer without sacrificing too much battery life is thanks to Silicon-Carbon technology. This allows for more battery capacity without increasing the physical size of the battery itself. Many phones today carry around 5000-7000mAh capacity, and 3900mAh is pretty good for a slim phone, though may still not be enough for some consumers.

Just like the rumored iPhone 17 Air, Samsung can implement AI-based battery monitoring to maintain battery health and endurance. Samsung also included wireless charging as a nice bonus to compensate for the small battery size.

It comes in a titanium finish. There are three colours: Jet Black, Silver, and Icy Blue. Samsung Philippines is yet to release this handset in the Philippines, but bet it will be around the end of May or start of June.
