We finally got out of that phase, no?
After a long series of MediaTek Helio G99s on every smartphone released in the budget range… EVER, MediaTek finally came up with the Helio G100… which is nothing more than a glorified G99. While there is nothing known yet about the new chipset, the Helio G100 is an octa-core chipset made using the same 6nm process as the G99, with at least 7% better CPU performance… which isn’t saying a lot. The Camon 30S Pro comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM, with an option to extend RAM virtually (which is mostly placebo)
However, setting aside the chipset, the Tecno Camon 30S Pro has a lot going for it. It is the first Tecno phone with wireless charging. The phone is 4G-only but the phone is equipped with a so-called “Carrier-Aggregate” technology that allows downlinked data to travel for up to 300Mb/s. To make things simpler, Tecno called this as “4.5G”. The bottomline is that the phone remains 4G-only.
The Camon 30S Pro’s design has a lot of similarities with its siblings, mainly the round camera island and the Sony IMX890-series primary camera. For the Camon 30S Pro, it uses a 50MP primary sensor, a Sony IMX896. The site mentions of “100MP Ultra-Clear Mode”. This is a marketing gimmick that uses software algorithms to enhance images and make it appear 100MP. It combines two 50MP shots to make that one 100MP. It also appears that the phone has two other cameras but these are just for show too. This 50MP flagship-grade camera comes with a 2MP depth and a light sensor. Gotta keep the costs low somehow. The phone is equipped with a 50MP selfie camera as well.
The phone comes in three colours: Interstellar Grey, Pearl Gold, and Shim Silver Green. While others call their design as being inspired from luxury watches, Tecno is more fascinated with the heavenly bodies. They call their design language “Cosmic Concentric Circles” design, or the 3C Design in short. This design comes with subtle elements building around the three camera modules of the phone.
The Camon 30S Pro has a 6.78″ FullHD+ (2436x1080px) curved AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and 2160Hz PWM Dimming. Curved displays feel premium and immersive as the corners have more screen in them. It also makes phones look taller by comparison. However, this usually comes at a cost of aesthetics. The website did not mention of any specific thickness, but some websites, such as YugaTech, mentioned of a 164.64 x 74.64 x 7.75mm dimension. 7.75mm thickness (for the vegan leather, at least) isn’t really saying much and so the phone might not be ergonomic, at least we’re not hoping it to be. The phone is IP53 water resistant and has “enhanced” touch features when the screen is wet.
As we mentioned earlier, this is the first phone from Tecno that has wireless charging. Come to think of it, the Camon is basically Tecno’s counterpart to Infinix’s Note line, coming with almost the same features and specs. The Camon 30S Pro has 45W fast charging and 20W wireless charging which, granted, may be a little slow, but it’s quite generous for a budget phone. As for battery capacity, that would be 5000mAh, as always.
This is also one of the rare gems that come with an IR Blaster, though we’ve seen a resurgence of this nifty feature recently. The phone runs HiOS based on Android 14. The phone is also equipped with stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and a headphone jack.
The brand did not announce any pricing details at the moment.
