Vivo launched a new budget phone in its Y-Series called the Y28. Aside from its metal-like design (it’s actually plastic polished to look like metal), the main highlight of the new device is its 6000mAh battery and IP64 rating. Both of these are features not typically seen in a sub-10K phone.

What’s the catch? Well, practically everything else has been lowered for its cost-cutting measures. If you scour through Vivo’s website, you’ll find that the phone uses an ageing MediaTek Helio G85 chipset paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM. It uses a 90Hz HD+ IPS LCD screen wherein other phones of this price range use FHD+ already. It comes with 44W fast charging, the standard for many Vivo’s phones.

In case you don’t know yet, the IP rating is a type of rating that companies spend on to certify that their products can withstand certain pressures of water and dust. an IP6x rating essentially makes a phone nearly waterproof, unlike an IP5x rating or lower, which makes a phone only splash proof. However, the phones are tested in lab-conditions and when used in a real-life scenario, there might be different results, hence the disclaimers.

There are two cameras and a depth sensor. The back features a 50MP camera while the front an 8MP selfie. There is a small ring light flash to complement the design too.

The phone is available in two different colours, Gleaming Orange and Agate Green. If you like having a phone with a very strong battery life and could survive tense weather, then this is for you. If you’re looking for a budget phone that can game or can do decent images, might as well look elsewhere.
