Same phone, different cameras, nerfed specs. All yours for PHP 24,999 and PHP 34,999
Oppo Philippines officially announces the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro. The global versions, of course. The ones with a lowered down chipset versus the Chinese variants. The two phones are technically the same, but there are major differences that set themselves apart. Let’s see how they are the same first.
Firstly, both phones carry the same display, a 6.7″ FullHD+ (2412x1080px) AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate. The chipset is the same too, a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 “Energy”, probably referring to how the phones are energy efficient. Both phones have 12GB RAM and 256 or 512GB ROM. You choose. Have you noticed that many of these brands also stopped supporting the “extra RAM” gimmick? Thank riddance for that!
In terms of cameras, that’s where they are different but both 50MP LYT-606 and 8MP Ultrawide cameras were retained. In terms of battery, both phones use the standard 5000mAh + 80W charging combo. Neither have wireless charging. Twelve generations of Reno, still no wireless charging.
What was added here, surprisingly, is the IR Blaster. Something that has seen a resurgence. Both phones obviously have 5G, Bluetooth 5.4 LE, NFC, and Dual-band Wi-Fi. Both phones boast AI at its disposal. Some include image enhancements such as Magic Eraser 2.0 wherein now you can easily remove unwanted subjects, and some improve connectivity such as LinkBoost which automatically looks for the best signal and connect if possible, and BeaconLink, a proprietary technology that allows you to do voice calls via Bluetooth in case you lose your cellular signal.
Now onto the differences. First and foremost, the cameras. The most obvious difference is the telephoto camera, only seen on the Reno12 Pro. It’s a Samsung S5 sensor with 50MP resolution, OIS, and 2x optical zoom. The selfie camera is also of a higher resolution on the Pro. 32MP on the regular and 50MP on the Pro. Also, the regular Reno12 uses the lame 2MP macro. It should have been gone by now.
The Reno12 Pro boasts durability thanks to its aluminum frame and body as well as IP65 rating. Oppo calls this “All-Round Armor Body”. At least this time, they aren’t going over-the-top and using MIL-STD-800H standards as a form of measurement for durability. That standard is less linear and civilian companies can be granted the certification based on their requirements.
Finally, the colors are different too but boast the same space theme. The Reno 12 comes in Matte Brown, Astro Silver, and Sunset Pink. Whereas the Reno12 Pro comes in two colours only. These are Nebula Silver and Matte Brown. Of course, the price is different and actually far from each other. The Reno12 starts at PHP 24,999 and the Reno12 Pro at PHP 34,999. Slim pickins!
The pre-order promo lasts until July 19. The phones will be available via Oppo’s concept stores nationwide, in third-party resellers, as well as online through Lazada, TikTok Shop, and Shopee.
