ICYMI: The Itel RS4 is the Brand’s First Entry into the Gaming Scene!

This is what happens when a realme 11 Pro+ and the Honor GT have a baby.

The Itel RS4 launched a few days ago, being the biggest center of attention for many content creators and tech blogs. Granted, the brand approached them for a review, which is a good way to gain significant market share and keep Transsion in the lead, the phone is Itel’s first entry into the gaming scene, and it has the design to show for it. Well, if that design is the realme 11 Pro Plus and the Honor GT had a baby. The biggest giveaway is the Beige colour with what appears to be stitched with vegan leather. It’s probably from the same ODM that the realme 11 Pro+ came with.

The Itel RS4 is a pretty good phone all around especially as a budget gaming phone with just one flaw. It’s using an HD+ (1612x720px) IPS LCD screen which is a strange choice by the company. At the phone’s price range, phones with FullHD+ 120Hz IPS LCD screens are fairly common, some even going as far as using OLED, so Itel has no excuse to use a low-res display. Yes, this display right here also has 120Hz refresh rate.

Inside is the very famous and definitely not overused MediaTek Helio G99, but not just any type, it’s the ULTIMATE variant of the chipset! What’s ultimate about it? Well, the name and some extra clock speeds. We heard that this chipset is finally getting a 5G version called the Dimensity 6300 but that is a story for another day.

Specifically, the phone is promoting two games. These are Garena FreeFire and Farlight 84. Both games run fair on the Helio G99 chipset Itel decided to use. The phone also has plenty of storage and RAM. By default the phone has 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM but there’s also a 12/256 option. Typical choices for a phone of its type. The RS4 is part of the “Super” series and is written at the back of the phone. This means it is in the same family as the Itel S23 and Itel S23 4G.

FreeFire isn’t entirely demanding and is designed to run on almost every phone at every level from budget to flagships. Farlight 84, while more demanding, also runs fairly well with phones within the RS4’s range, so you should have no problems running the game smoothly. This also means the phone is compatible with games like Honkai Star Rail, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Call of Duty Mobile, and Mobile Legends.

The phone has a 50MP camera… and that’s the only interesting part of its camera setup. The other is a depth sensor while the front camera is only 8MP resolution. To say this is quite a watered down realme 11 Pro+ is an understatement.

One great feature of the phone though is the charging and battery system. When you run games the entire day, or simply updating them, like when you install Genshin Impact for the first time, it will rapidly drain the phone’s battery. Also, using the phone while charging is normally not ideal. Phone brands are aware of this and Transsion has come up with a solution called Bypass Charging that allows you to use the Itel RS4 while charging. The system is simple. When you plug in the phone, it will use the charger’s power over your battery to protect it from depreciating, similar to how laptops do while plugged into a wall. The phone also has 45W of fast charging to boot. Yes, it is the typical 5000mAh battery capacity you’re seeing here.

As a gaming phone, tactility is important so Itel included a Z-Axis Linear motor for that strong tactile feel. In terms of everything else, it’s the usual business. 4G LTE, Side-mounted fingerprint scanner, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, and Android 13 with ItelOS 13.5 on top.

Its colours include Elegant Beige, Silvery White, and Lurex Black. Initially, the phone was down to PHP 4,699 (8/128) and PHP 5,699 (12/256) respectively during its launch. Its regular prices are PHP 6,299 (8/128) and PHP 7,499 (12/256). If you can ignore the less-than-ideal display, then the phone is pretty good.
