Our good friends from Xundd actually has the phone available before it was even released in China!
Nubia, at least in the Philippines, has always been a niche brand. Even though ZTE is now official in the Philippines, its status has always been niche but what they offer are competitive, like your usual brands you see online and in malls.
However, if there’s one thing they are good at, it’s their flagship Nubia line. From the gaming Red Magic series to their regular Z series. The ZTE Nubia 60 Ultra comes with a quite unique design and the company’s signature in-display camera system which we’re happy they never abandoned, because the screen looks beautiful and clean.
Also, for the first-time in any ZTE phone, this flagship is equipped with an IP68 water and dust resistance, about time ZTE.
Like last year’s Nubia, the Z60 Ultra comes in a literal Starry Night colour scheme, based on Vincent Van Gogh’s (pronounced: Van Goff) famous painting. The camera island is also unique, but terribly protruding. Try laying this flat on a table. The phone’s overall design has a red and black theme, with red being the outline, a signature colour for Nubia.
The main feature of this phone is its triple camera system. This includes the 50MP Primary Camera (1/1.49, 35mm, Sony IMX800), a 64MP Omnivision OV64B Periscope camera, and finally a?50MP Ultrawide, also with OIS (1/1.56, 100-degrees FOV). This ultrawide camera comes with optical image stabilization is a rare sight to see, even with flagships. The same ultrawide and primary camera is present with the Nubia Z50S Pro.
The 12MP front camera is hidden underneath the display. With several generations of in-display cameras (one of our first-ever articles was from ZTE after all), we’d like to see how much it improved. This camera also has its own display chip and AI “deep-sensing” engine.
As usual, it is equipped with Qualcomm’s flagship chipset, the third generation Snapdragon 8. Up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage are available. Because the phone is under Nubia and its suggestive design telling, you’d expect to see some gaming elements? Then you’d be right! Inside the phone is a large aerospace-grade thermal plate complemented with a vapour chamber (so when you play Zelda via Yuzu, you can’t cook your favourite breakfast meal with it). Also, Nubia’s Game Space is also available to further enhance your gameplay experience.
The phone comes packing with a large 6000mAh battery with 80W fast charging but Nubia’s website isn’t telling that for some reason. Another thing, it charges via a Power Delivery 3.0 USB-C port.
The phone has a sharp squarish edge but the front camera is invisible so you’re getting a seamless experience here. The display is essentially similar to the Nubia Z50S Pro, being a 6.8″ flat AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and 1500nits of peak brightness. This display also supports Dolby Vision, 2160Hz PWM Dimming, and 1200Hz touch response rate.
Of course, it has an in-display fingerprint scanner, 5G services, and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. You know, the usual. As we mentioned in the title, our good friends from XUNDDPH has the phone ready for pre-ordering. You can get one for as low as PHP 42,999 (12/256), or you can get the bigger trim for PHP 49,999 (16/512). It is available in Silver and Black. The Starry Night theme is sadly limited to Chinese users only.
