They managed to sell the Phantom V Flip for just under PHP 30K! Now that’s an “affordable luxury”!
Tecno has officially brought its magnum opus in the Philippines, the Phantom V Flip 5G! It is one of two foldable phones that Tecno launched worldwide, the other being the Phantom V Fold. However, what we’re surprised to here that this phone mindblowingly affordable for a flip phone!
Before we get to that, let’s check out the specs. The phone is designed to be Tecno’s flagship, as many of the phones in the Phantom sub-brand. The Tecno Phantom V’s design is inspired from comets and asteroid in space, as evidenced by its secondary screen encircled by the camera island.
The hinge is tested to last for about 200,000 folds. The same level as the more expensive Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, and 3x less than the Oppo Find N3 Flip which is priced almost similarly.
It uses a 6.9″ LTPO3 FullHD+ (2640x1080px) AMOLED display with a refresh rate ranging from 10 to 120Hz and 1440Hz High PWM Dimming to reflect away flickering. The smaller secondary display measures 1.32″ and also uses AMOLED. The cover screen is customizable as well, almost similar to watch faces on a smartwatch. It even includes cute 3D pets for you to play and interact with.
Although a flagship, it uses a midrange MediaTek Dimensity 8050 (Dimensity 1300) chipset which can partially explain why the phone is priced lowly versus its competitors. This is not a bad thing as having alternatives in a more budget-friendly range is a good thing because this encourages others to do the same and make foldable and flippable phones more accessible to the general public.
In terms of cameras, there are two at the back. Here, you can find a 64MP RGBW Primary camera and a 13MP Ultrawide camera. The front features a 13MP selfie camera. It isn’t the fancy cameras that Oppo highlighted with their Hasselblad optics and calibration. This also highlights the lower price tag.
It is equipped with a modest 4000mAh battery and 45W fast charging. Like the Oppo Find N3 Flip, the Tecno Phantom V Flip lacks fast charging. If you want it, although hella slow and nearly unusable, get the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5.
The phone runs HiOS 13.5 based on Android 13 and we’re hoping to see it get upgraded to Android 14. It features 5G connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6/6e, NFC, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. DTS.X audio is also present on the phone.
It comes in Iconic Black and Mystic Dawn Lavender. It is priced at PHP 29,999 but its early bird price is down to a whopping PHP 23,999. If you want to get a first-hand experience on an Android flip phone but couldn’t afford the luxury of the Galaxy Z Flip5 and the Oppo Find N3, then this is for you.
