MediaTek Dimensity 6100 Plus Brings 5G Connectivity and 108MP Support to the Masses.

It’s a Helio G99 with 5G.

As part of MediaTek’s expansion to bring 5G services to a more general audience, the company announced its newest offering, the MediaTek Dimensity 6100 Plus. It is positioned higher than the Dimensity 6020 (Dimensity 700) but lower than the Dimensity 7050 (Dimensity 810).

The chipset has your standard budget 5G specs, including support for refresh rates up to 120Hz. It uses a more modern 2+6 architecture comprising two Cortex-A76 big cores (2.2GHz) and six Cortex A-55 efficiency cores (2.0GHz). It is fabricated based on a 6nm TSMC process and used on chips like the Dimensity 1300. It uses the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU which is also used on the Helio G99. In a nutshell, it’s a 5G version of the Helio G99.

One of its main features is its support for 108MP cameras and bringing sub-6GHz 5G on budget phones. This type of 5G connectivity has faster bandwidth than typical mmWave 5G and so your phone could pick up 5G signals faster.

“As developing markets continue rolling out 5G networks at a rapid pace and operators in developed markets work to finish transitioning consumers from 4G LTE to 5G, there has never been a more vital need for chipsets that cater to the growing number of mainstream mobile devices that feature next-generation connectivity,” said CH Chen, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit. “The MediaTek Dimensity 6000 series makes it possible for device makers to stay ahead of the curve with impressive upgrades that boost performance, increase power efficiency and reduce material costs.”

There is no news yet which company will adopt this chipset first (though, we’re guessing it could be Infinix, Realme, Xiaomi, or Tecno) but we’ll keep you updated.
