Surprisingly… not expensive for a gaming phone!
While we all patiently wait for the Ally to arrive in the Philippines, the ROG Phone 7 series would be an excellent substitute for now. The phone’s internals is powerful enough to run even Yuzu Emulator. Remember that the popular Nintendo Switch Emulator can only run on a minuscule amount of phones, worthy of being called an ultimate gaming device.
To recall, the phone was launched last April comprising the base model and the Ultimate. These two phones are identical. However, the Ultimate comes with the AeroActive cooler accessory. It is essentially an attachable fan which allows airflow for its cooling chambers.
To recap, the phone is equipped with a 6.8″ Samsung E4 AMOLED with 165Hz refresh rate and a FullHD+ resolution designed for quick response that is ideal for fast-paced games like Genshin Impact and PUBG.
While intended for gaming, ASUS also ensured that camera users are happy. Unlike the previous handsets, the ROG Phone 7 twins are equipped with a flagship 50MP Sony IMX766 primary camera with OIS. This is paired with a 13MP Ultrawide and 5MP macro fit for midrange phones but we don’t mind as they are not the main priority here.
The chipset used is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 paired with 12 or 16GB RAM and either 256 or 512GB UFS 3.1 internal storage. The Ultimate gets only one option, 16+512. This is still slightly less than the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate which had 18GB RAM.
For tactility, the phones are equipped with an enhanced X-Axis Haptic Linear motor which can be felt every time you tap on the screen. This makes the taps very similar to mechanical keyboards. The phones also come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, 5G services, NFC, and RGB Lighting. Surprisingly, the 3.5mm jack is present. ASUS is one of the only companies to retain this feature in a flagship. Sadly, it only has an IP54 certification so it may not survive drowning.
Finally, both phones are equipped with two 3000mAh batteries and are charged using a 65W USB-C port. The phone also has shoulder pads and accessory connectors so you could plug your favourite ROG accessories into the phone.
The base ROG Phone 7 (12/128) is priced at PHP 50,995 while the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is priced at PHP 69,995. You can get a Steam Deck with that money, a decent gaming PC, a PS5, or probably even the upcoming ROG Ally which runs Windows. You do you.
The phones are available to purchase from ROG’s Shopee.
