There’s a special edition in which the design heavily reminds us of Project Ara
Tecno has announced previously the successor to the Camon 18 Pro series in Africa first then India. Now they’re bringing the Camon 19 Pro series to the Philippines and its Mondrian Edition with a collage design and color-changing back (similar to the original infinix Zero X concept) may be the most interesting design choice yet. This design heavily reminds us of that of modular phones, notably, Google’s Project Ara where users can replace the parts themselves instead of buying a new phone every year, similar to what you can do with a PC.
Let’s go to the specs. The phone has a 6.8in FHD+ (2400x1080px) IPS LCD screen with 120Hz variable refresh rate. Inside is the reliable 12nm MediaTek Helio G96 without 5G services. This is paired with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and a choice between 128 or 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. It will both feature virtual RAM and MicroSD card expansion.
The cameras are the main selling point of the device, and the phone’s primary camera is pretty special for a midrange. The RGBW primary camera has 64MP resolution and optical image stabilization (OIS). This is paired with a pretty interesting set of cameras including a 50MP 50mm RGBW telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and the pretty-much-a-gimmick 2MP depth sensor. In front is the 32MP punch hole camera sitting in the middle.
It comes with a 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging, USB-C, 3.5mm jack, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and Android 12 with the company’s proprietary HiOS 8.0 skin on top.
Meanwhile, the 19 Pro 5G sells itself more to those wanting to try out 5G but don’t want to miss out on performance either. It almost has the same specifications as the 4G variant with the exception of the chipset and set of cameras. This one uses a MediaTek Dimensity 810 5G chipset and the cameras are far more basic. It has kept the 64MP RGBW OIS camera but also swaps the very useful 50MP telephoto for a useless 2mp macro. The 2mp depth camera remained and the selfie camera is still in the middle, although now has half the resolution.
The Mondrian Edition does not have 5G services. The regular phones, including the 5G one, comes in Cedar Green and Eco Blue colour schemes.
