TECNO introduces the Camon 19 line. Taking center stage is the RGBW camera.

The camera-centric phones come with an updated design and even better camera features. The company is progressing quite fast

Tecno Camon 19 Pro

Tecno has introduced today three new phones with an updated design. These phones are the company’s most recent achievements and mark a milestone in their progress. The Camon 19 series takes its camera game more seriously, taking into account the experience learned from the previous series. The trio of phones

Tecno Camon 19 Pro 5G

Transsion finally stepped up and started making more 5G phones. They are one of the last companies to actually do it on their smartphone lineup and the latest ones too. The Camon 19 Pro 5G is one of the latest phones and one of the fewest to actually have 5G capabilities in the company’s entire portfolio.

The phone uses a 6.78″ FHD+ (2400x1080px) IPS LCD screen with 120Hz refresh rate, somewhat a downside versus the Camon 18 Premier’s AMOLED. We’re assuming this is the top-of-the-line of the series since this is what the company is constantly boasting about. The design is one of the things the company advertises for the phone, as it is premium with a diamond cut at the back and possibly what appears to be a metallic frame. The camera lenses feature a double ring design like the more expensive Huawei P50 series, and inside those rings feature the lenses. One at the top and two at the bottom.

Speaking of cameras, the primary camera is a 64MP Samsung ISOCELL GWB sensor with an RGBW filter. This improves on the standard RGB filter for colour reproduction by adding white to the mix. The company claims this improves night photos and allows around 208% more light intake, resulting in brighter images. The latter two include the 2mp depth and macro cameras. It has a 16mp punch-hole front camera.

Inside it is a Mediatek Dimensity 810 chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, in addition for up to 5GB virtual RAM. In the US, the phone is up for grabs for around USD 320 (~Php 17.1K) and comes in two colours: Eco Black and Cedar Green both of which are inspired by nature. It has a 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. It has access to Bluetooth 5.1, Dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, and 5G services.

There’s also a 4G version which is actually the main star of the four phones, for some reason.

Tecno Camon 19 Pro 4G

While we know Transsion isn’t the best in their naming, at least they aren’t as confusing as Xiaomi or Oppo, taking rebrands after rebrands. For now, the company actually makes the effort to make their phones distinct from its sister company, Infinix. The Pro 5G may have a 5G chipset but the G96-powered Camon 19 Pro is where all the amazing camera technology lie. So we’re surprised the phone is not listed yet on Tecno’s website and we have to look elsewhere for reliable information.

The phone is quite similar to the 5G version apart from the cameras and chipset it uses. The cameras include the 64MP Samsung ISOCELL GWB introduced earlier and is actually the first phone to use an RGBW sensor to improve colour reproduction and overall brightness of images. The second camera is a 50MP telephoto camera with OIS, EIS, and 2x optical zoom making it perfect for portraits. The third camera is a 2mp depth sensor which we find redundant and useless, as if it isn’t useless already on other situations. It has a 32mp front camera on its punch-hole notch

It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, 4G LTE, a 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging, and runs off HiOS 8.6 based on Android 12. It retails in the US for USD 280 (~Php 15K) which is honestly, not too bad for the price. It comes in Sea Salt White and Eco Black.

Tecno Camon 19

The vanilla variant of the phone comes with some compromises, but still worthy enough for photography. For instance, it kept the same triple camera (including the 64mp RGBW camera from the former) as the 5G phone. The display is about the same size and it also uses the same FHD+ resolution albeit with no fast refresh rate. It uses a weaker Helio G85 chipset. While it retains a 5000mAh battery, the charging speed slowed down to 18W. It comes in the same colours as the Pro 4G with the addition of Digital Green and retails in Kenya first for KES 24,499 (~Php 11.2K) for the 4/128 variant. The 6/128 configuration has its price yet to be announced. Also, like the previous two, it has support for virtual RAM, up to 5GB.

Availability in Kenya starts on June 20.

The most affordable variant of the four. It comes in the same exact design as the others but with weaker cameras, except the front where it uses a 32mp camera. The phone’s been spotted in Bangladesh and sells for BDT 18,490 (~Php 10.6K) for the 6/128 configuration. Strangely, this phone, by default, has more RAM than the improved vanilla Camon 19.
