The Reno7 5G is a photography-centric phone with convenience on the side!

Well, maybe everything except the price.

Oppo has brought the photo-centric Reno7 5G to the Philippines. It is the company’s midrange offering. Oppo advertises the phone as not just a photography expert but also a decent multi-tasker. It is quite those things as the Mediatek Dimensity 900 inside is truly capable.

The phone has a 6.4″ FHD+ (2400x1080px) Rigid LTPS AMOLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate. That’s just a fancy way of saying that the phone uses a SAMOLED-grade screen without saying it is SAMOLED. It is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 so even your coins will not tear the screen down.

In terms of cameras, the phone has a triple camera setup consisting of the typical 64MP + 8MP ultrawide + 2MP macro cameras. What it does boast is the 32MP high-res selfie camera with embedded software enhancements through its camera app such as portrait mode, timelapse, and dual-view. The latter allows you to use both the rear and front cameras simultaneously, making it perfect for vloggers.

Oppo also mentioned that the phone is convenient whether using it at work or at play. This is due to ColorOS 12 based on Android 12 being the phone’s main software. ColorOS 12 also allows you to synchronize your phone’s files to your PC. In addition, it has several “air gestures” as the company likes to put it, that allow you to use the phone hands-free through gesture recognition.

Other features Oppo mentioned ColorOS 12 has include: Adaptive Sleep, and anti-peeping done through the phone’s intelligent sensors. This feature is ideal for privacy reasons so the people around you won’t just snoop and look at your phone.

We mentioned that you can also seamlessly connect your phone to your PC. This is done via a QR Code or Bluetooth. To further enhance performance, there’s the AI System Booster. ColorOS 12 also introduces Oppo’s own version of Apple’s Animoji called Omoji. This feature allows you to turn yourself into a 3D avatar implemented by the phone’s algorithms. Express yourself!

Going back to the specs, the phone has a 4500mAh battery split into two 2200mAh cells. This is complemented by the 65W SuperVOOC fast charging. As mentioned earlier, the phone comes with a Mediatek Dimensity 900 5G chipset paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. The former can be expanded virtually.

It has a USB-C port, 3.5mm jack, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and a Dual Nano-SIM slot. In terms of connectivity, the phone has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 5G services, and NFC. The phone comes in two attractive colours: Startrails Blue and Starry Black.

The price is not to be forgotten, as it can be a little pricey. It starts at Php 26,999. It’s available offline on Oppo’s concept stores and online through Lazada and Shopee.

Oppo Reno7Z 5G

Alongside the Reno7 5G, Oppo also released the Reno7 Z 5G. It has an identical design as the former and even the same ColorOS 12 skin based on Android 12, but it uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset paired with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 internal storage. This also comes with expandable virtual RAM. A major difference is that the screen is now down to just 60Hz instead of the higher 90Hz. At prices like this, a high refresh rate is expected, although that’s about the same expectations as the Google Pixel 6A.

The cameras are also slightly different. Instead of an 8MP ultrawide, there is a 2mp depth sensor in place. A downgrade but not by a significant margin. The front camera’s resolution has been halved too.

The phone has a 4500mAh battery but Oppo did not state the charging speed. If you visit its Chinese relative, you can tell it has 33W fast charging. It’s unknown why Oppo does not disclose it as it is competitively fast.

The phone also has NFC, Wi-Fi 6, 5G services, and Bluetooth 5.2. It also has an in-display fingerprint scanner, a 3.5mm jack, and USB-C port.

It costs Php 19,999 and is available through Lazada and Shopee, as well as offline Oppo concept stores. It comes in Rainbow Spectrum and Cosmic Black. The former changes colour depending on the angle of the phone.
