Oppo mainly sells underspecced phones at expensive prices, which people still buy for some reason.
Everyday, another expensive Oppo budget phone. It’s a surprise that their budget line is still afloat and that they still rank very highly in marketing research firms. The Oppo A76 is another budget phone with such an expensive yet underwhelming spec sheet. We do know that it’s not always about what’s outside that matters, but also on the inside.
The Oppo A76 has a 6.56in. HD+ (1612x720px) IPS LCD panel with 90Hz refresh rate, the latter of which is rare for an Oppo budget phone. Still, the resolution is lacking for its asking price in Malaysia, which is MYR 900 (~Php 11K).
Inside the phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chip, a chip that’s supposedly an improvement over the Snapdragon 678. The performance of the Snapdragon 680 is very similar to the Helio G85 or Helio G88, and like those two, this chip has no 5G services. This is paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.
There are two cameras at the back. The main one is a 13mp camera complemented with a 2mp sensor, again, quite lacking for its asking price. Those large rings at the back? They’re quite deceptive. In front is the 8mp selfie camera on a punch-hole.
One of the main features of the phone is the 33W fast charging and 5000mAh battery, and probably the only thing notable about it. Still, this specific feature does not justify its expensive pricing.
The A76 is supposedly the successor to the A74, but we see it as a downgrade. The latter unit has a 6.43in. FHD+ AMOLED, a 48mp main camera, and the same battery and charging capacity. The price is also nearly identical. So this is such a strange move for Oppo. The only thing that was upgraded from the A74 is the chipset. The A74 used an older Snapdragon 662 chip.
