Oppo Reno 7 series are now available in China!

An upgrade over the Reno 6 series. All carry 5G monikers

About a week ago, Oppo has released the Oppo Reno 7 series, all of which are capable of using 5G services. There are three phones in the series that come with a design that’s similar to newer Vivo phones: Large squarish camera cutouts with large circular cameras with loose spacing.

From left to right: Oppo Reno 7 5G, Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G, and Oppo Reno 7 SE 5G

Starting with the Oppo Reno 7 5G, it has a 6.43in. FHD+ (2400x1080px) AMOLED with 90Hz refresh rate as well as 600 nits of peak brightness which is oddly low for AMOLED screens, and 409 pixel-per-inch (ppi) density. The phone uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset (not the plus version) paired with 8 or 12GB RAM and either 128 or 256GB UFS 2.1 storage.

In terms of cameras, the phone uses a Sony IMX766 50mp sensor with f/1.8 aperture complemented by a 13mp f/2.2, 119° ultrawide and a fairly useless 2mp macro camera. The phone has a 32mp camera up front for selfies. Judging ny the camera, the phone can take 4K video on both sides. Juicing this phone is the typical 4500mAh battery that’s complemented with 65W fast charging.

Completing the phone is ColorOS12 based on the newest version of Android called Android 12. It has an in-display fingerprint sensor for biometrics and supports dual-band Wi-Fi.

Oppo Reno 7 SE

Oppo Reno7 series is here - Reno7 5G, Reno7 Pro 5G and Reno7 SE 5G

The Oppo Reno 7 SE (short for Special Edition, but that name has been misused it lost its meaning) is a slightly downgraded variant of the vanilla Oppo Reno 7. It uses a similar FHD+ 90Hz AMOLED but is shorter at 6.43in. It also uses a different processor. This time, it’s a Mediatek Dimensity 900, a processor that’s comparable. This processor is paired with 8GB RAM and either 128 or 256GB of internal storage.

The battery is also identical, but charges at a lower rate of 33W. Like the Reno 7, it has an in-display fingerprint scanner, support for Bluetooth 5.2, and dual-band Wi-Fi.

For cameras, the phone uses a 48mp Sony IMX581 paired with useless two 2mp sensors. You guessed it, it’s macro and depth sensor. We wish manufacturers just stop using these as it doesn’t help much with the quality of your photo than using the main sensor or through AI algorithms if it’s meant for bokeh/portrait shots.
