Tecno teases the Camon 18 Premier launch for the Philippine market

Yes, the affordable phones with a gimbal camera system.

Since Infinix launched their flagship phone with a periscope telephoto, Tecno of course, will launch their own version as well. In their Facebook page, the Camon 18 Premier was teased to launch in the country! The Camon 18 Premier is Tecno’s version of the Infinix Zero X that comes with 60x zoom and a gimbal-like stabilisation.

In case you were wondering, yes, these two brands are owned by one company: Transsion, hence their similar website design, phone styling, layout and even launch intervals. Infinix is like Transsion’s Oppo and Tecno is their version of Vivo.

Anyway, back to the Camon 18 Premier. Recalling back, the phone has already launched in Nigeria. Similar to the Infinix Zero X Pro, this phone comes with a 6.7in. FHD+ Flat AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate.

The main highlight of this phone is the camera. One of the biggest selling points of this phone is the gimbal stabilisation and 60x zoom which are very rare features on midrangers and budget phones. It has three cameras at the back: a main 64mp sensor, the 12mp gimbal camera and the 8mp periscopic camera with 60x zoom and 5x optical zoom. Because of this periscope camera, Tecno has modified its camera software to include the “Moon Probe” allowing you to take pictures of the sky above and automatically enhancing the quality.

The phone uses a Mediatek Helio G96, a slightly tweaked Helio G95 that also natively supports 120Hz refresh rate. This is paired 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. For endurance and battery, it has a typically large 4750mAh and is paired with 33W fast charging. This charging tech is slower than the one Infinix uses, but is still pretty fast.

A side-mounted fingerprint scanner is available as a biometric feature.

Camon 18P

The Camon 18P, the middle child of the three phones, is the counterpart of Infinix Zero X. It uses a 48mp main camera along with two more complements, one of which is what Tecno calls a “portrait” camera.

Starting with the display, it’s a 6.8in. IPS LCD. The refresh rate remains the same, 120Hz. Like the Premier, it uses the Mediatek Helio G96 for performance.

There are three cameras at the back: a single 48mp main camera, and surprisingly, a 13mp telephoto with 50mm lens size (which Tecno calls a “Portrait camera”). Despite this inclusion, Tecno still added the useless 2mp depth sensor.

For the battery, you have the same 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging as the Premier.

Tecno Camon 18

Tecno Camon 18P also has a 120 Hz display and Helio G96 chip, the Camon 18 bets on 90 Hz

The base variant is… the usual stuff… It’s similar to the previous Camon 17 in a lot of ways. The most obvious being the 6.8in. 90Hz FHD+ IPS LCD screen. It’s slightly bigger than the Camon 17 by 0.2in.

The camera is a triple camera setup, the standard ones. A 48mp main sensor and 2mp depth and macro sensors. The front camera is 16mp, which is common in today’s smartphones. Like the first two, the Camon 18 comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometrics.

In terms of performance, it uses a Helio G88 processor like its Infinix counterpart, the Hot 11s. This is paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. Lastly, you have a 5000mAh battery charged on a USB-C with support for 18W fast charging. This charger comes in the retail box.

When it comes to release date, Tecno has not announced yet. The phones may arrive early November, with the Premier being most likely online-only.
