The Cherry Mobile Aqua S9 is a budget phone from local ODM Cherry Mobile. The company has announced that the base version of the S9 is upgradeable to Android 11, it’s a rare sight to see for a phone with a price of Php4,000, but there’s a catch.

Currently, the upgrade is not available over the air (OTA) and you can only upgrade it at a nearby authorised service center. Users under warranty are FREE for upgrade, just bring your receipt or any proof-of-purchase to validate that the warranty is not yet expired. Otherwise, you need to pay up an enormously expensive fee of Php550.

According to the admins at Cherry Mobile’s Facebook Group, the OTA update should be available soon, but currently, the OTA update is unstable and the update is only available through Cherry Mobile’s Service Center.
