Based on the design, it looks like an iPad Pro. Every tablet now looks like an iPad Pro, because of course it should.
Android tablets are making a comeback, thanks to a growing demand for cheaper alternatives to the iPad. Manufacturers such as Realme and Oppo have started making their own tablets, and contemporary manufacturers like Samsung and Lenovo are continuously making their own. In addition, tablet sales have seen impressive numbers in terms of sales during the first quarter of 2021.
Xiaomi has also been known to make tablets, the latest one being the Mi Pad 4, which was released in 2016. It looks highly similar to the iPad Mini. However, Xiaomi is once again back to making tablets, but at a much higher spec sheet.
From the looks of it, the tablet looks like a mixture between the iPad Pro and the Mi 11 series (excluding Ultra) of smartphones. There are three models supposedly, but they remained unnamed for now. This could be the Mi Pad 5, Mi Pad 5 Pro and the Mi Pad 5 Lite.
The first variant is rumored to have a flagship-level Snapdragon 870 chipset with 5G at the ready. The tablet will feature an 11in. IPS LCD panel with a 2K resolution. Rumors also suggest of a high refresh rate, possibly 120Hz. The tablet will be powered by a modest (for a tablet) 8,720mAh battery with 67W fast charging. Unlike regular budget tablets, this one is equipped with smartphone-level cameras, one of which is a 48mp sensor coupled with two more complements (possibly ultrawide, macro, and depth, or any of the three). The tablet also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The second variant is also using a Snapdragon 870 chipset although it won’t have GSM features like 5G. It is rumoured that this one is Wi-Fi only. Also, instead of a 48mp camera, this model would come with a 12mp camera, but may still remain a triple camera setup. Other than that, there are no other major differences. These tablets may be the model numbers M210581AC and M210581C that were certified by China’s 3C regulatory body last month.
There are also rumours of an optional tab cover with keyboard, along with a position to place the stylus that supports 4096 levels of pressure.
The third tablet is the “lite” version of the three, supposedly coming with a Snapdragon 860 chipset (which is just a rebranded Snapdragon 865, the specs are highly identical) and 33W charging. It is unknown yet whether this supports GSM or LTE features like the top variant. Also, camera specs aren’t revealed or leaked yet, so we might have to wait until its reveal.
All three tablets are skipping MIUI 13 which is also coincidentally and interestingly to be released this August. The tablets are also releasing in the same month. Instead, the tablets will ship with MIUI 12.5 at the ready.
There is also a possibly upcoming affordable variant called “Redmi Tablet” that is either using a Dimensity 1200 chipset or a Snapdragon 768G chipset. This tablet has been certified by the FCC in this document. Other than that, not much else is known. It is not yet known if Xiaomi is calling it the “Redmi Tablet” even.
As these are leaks, take them with a pinch of salt, they all might not be 100% true or accurate. Let’s wait for Xiaomi to unveil them before judging the specs.
