Vietnamese smartphone manufacturer, Vsmart, has announced that it will stop manufacturing smartphones as well as televisions in order to shift their focus on “more important research”.
Its parent company “VinGroup” said the following announcement. According to Google Translate, this is the translated statement.
“On May 9, 2021, Vingroup officially announced that VinSmart would stop researching and producing TVs and mobile phones to focus resources on developing electronic products and features of “Infotainment” for VinFast car. This is a strategic step to bring VinFast towards its goal of becoming one of the smartest and most convenient electric car manufacturers in the world.”
VSmart’s latest phone is the VSmart Star 5, an ODM-manufactured phone which is similar to the Cherry Mobile Aqua S9. However, unlike the latter, the Star 5 has a rear fingerprint scanner and consists of three storage/ram options: 3/32, 3/64 and 4/64, and uses a Mediatek Helio G35 processor. For the battery, it has a 5000mAh battery with 15W fast charging. It comes with a 13mp triple camera.
The prices of each option is listed below:
- 3/32: 2,690,000 VND (~5.6K php)
- 3/64: 2,890,000 VND (~6K php)
- 4/64: 3,290,000 ND (~6.8K php)
According to VinGroup, they will spend their resources on automotive technology, which includes electric vehicles. In addition, the company will be focusing on IoT tech, such as smart home devices.
