Earlier this month, Xiaomi announced that the Mi Pad is set to return this year. A render from XiaomiPlanet seems to confirm this theory.
The possible set date for the release was first seen on Weibo when Redmi Product Director Wang Teng Thomas replied to Mi fans about the possible Mi Pad return. He said that the new Mi Pad 5 is not going to be launched this month but rather at some point within the second half of the year. This could mean that the Mi Pad 5 would launch late in June or early July.
The tablet shown is called the “Mi Pad 5” and, unlike Xiaomi’s previous tablets, this one is a serious challenger, opting to compete with Apple iPad Pro, Samsung Galaxy Tab S series and Huawei MediaPad.
The tablet has very slim bezels and appears to have a camera bump similar to the Mi 11 series. Unlike the usual tablets, this comes with a triple camera setup. Also, one of the variants have been certified to come with a 8,720mAh battery
Along with the vanilla Mi Pad 5, there is also a Pro version and possibly a third unit as well. The regular version will be equipped with Snapdragon 870 processor, a slightly underclocked Snapdragon 888 processor, while the Pro version is the candidate for the higher-end market, opting with 120Hz refresh rate, 2K screen and Mediatek Dimensity 1200 processor.
We will let you know for actual official specs once the tablets are released. Tablets are really coming back, after long years of downfall and having them forgotten entirely.
